Just wanted to say thank you, this provides a clear explanation of how both work.

Thank you for the helpful description of the "automatic data record" function on the speed sensor. Most other reviews don't mention or explain this.

I really like that extra feature for the speed sensor 2 for commuting.

Sure would be nice if Garmin would let us match Speed Sensors to a particular bike in our "Gear" so we could automatically track miles/bike without having to manually select the bike each activity after the fact.

Thank you Des for taking the time out to answer my question’s. I end up getting the Garmin Fenix 5X Plus with Sapphire Glass. Thanks my friend
Keep those great videos coming

Thank you for this video. I'm retired and decide to become a cyclist. I have the Garmin 830 Edge bike computer. I'm hoping to connect the speed sensors 2 to my bike. Thank you

Informative and thorough review. Thanks for being honest about the recording issues, it helped me to make an informed purchasing decision.

For my indoor cycling do I need the cadence sensor or speed sensor? I'm more interested in health measurements than performance measurements.

Thanks for this review. I am getting these so I can have a go at Zwift and see if I enjoy the experience of riding indoors without breaking the budget.

The speed sensor holder is a bit large for smaller hubs used on an 80s vintage bike although it did not fall off on my half mile test run. I plan to use it mostly indoors so no big deal for me.

Thank you for another great video! Quick question, as I just picked up this bundle along with a Garmin Edge 830. Does it make sense to pair these sensors with my phone as well, even though I will always use my Garmin Edge 830 when I go for a ride (whether it be on my road or mountain bike)? My concern is ending up with redundant/duplicate data on Garmin Connect/Strava, or are these systems smart enough to recognize the same data and only upload the GPS based/Garmin 830 version? Please let me know your thoughts on this topic? Thanks in advance. Cheers! :-)

Commuter here, looking to use this as an odometer for my bike. My friends don't believe that I bike more than I drive... Not a fan of bike computers or recording commutes as workouts so hoping this solves my problem. Also hoping that the data has some sort of summary such as "total biked miles this month"

How do you like these compared to the wahoo sensors? Can I use these Garmin sensors with just the iPhone + garmin connect (that is, without owning a physical garmin cycling computer or watch)?

Des, I rely on you so much when it comes to getting my new gear. I love Garmin and your reviews are so helpful every time. So, I've been doing indoor cycling on a spin bike, it looks like my best option is to forego speed measurements and just do the cadence sensor, right?

Want to use on a spin bike with Zwift, Waiting to buy, I was hoping this new version might wake up even with the sensor mounted the wrong way (i.e not round the hub). Also ref. the calibration/wheel size, I assume done via the Garmin App, does it remember this on the sensor itself? e.g. when using with paring with Zwift will it be close to the right speed to start, You have to put in a wheel size with Zwift also but wondered if more likely to be accurate. I read someone could not quite get enough adjustment.

If the Speed 2 is paired with a Garmin head unit which is recording your ride, does this mean you end up with 2x activities in Garmin connect / strava etc for the same ride? ... ie one from the speed sensor and one from the head unit?? ... or does it "intelligently" know that your head unit is on the case? ... OR ... would I have to disable the connection between the Speed 2 and Garmin Connect to save myself bouncing around apps deleting duplicated information after each ride?

The main concern for me is the stability of the signal. Can it compete with the smoothness of a good old fashioned magnet in the spoke wired to a simply unit such as the cateye velo? I find the GPS based speed sensor too erratic to be helpful during a momentary glance down to check on my speed. Will this provide a better solution when paired to my gaming GPS unit? Does anyone have an opinion on this?

Do you have a video of pairing these two to an iPhone without Garmin connect? I can’t get the cadence to pair with anything, including Garmin connect

It may be a silly question, but: can i use speed sensor without having a garmin watch? (So I can use it 100% with only garmin app on my phone?)
I want to give it as a present to my friend, and it would be a great start to introduce him into this world :))
Thanks for your answer in advance!

I'm a mountain biker. Is it okay to attach the speed and cadence sensors to my mountain bike? How durable are the sensors and are they water proof? Thanks.
