They both "choked" on their ambitions

The two actors here did a thoroughly stellar job in bringing to life two compellingly flawed and driven characters, and an oddly convincing relationship. Wish we had this from the big screen movies!!

He really didn't deserve what happens to him. He was very redeemable but didn't get the chance because he didn't learn his lesson of his ambitions and emotions

Syril was actually correct. He was good at his job and was punished for doing it. His targeting Andor nearly ended Axis. We see in Season 2 he was an effective field agent and actually almost defeated Andor in combat who was supposedly one of the rebels best. His issue was he believed in the wrong side who let him down time and again.

Problem with the empire was, it does not want you to be good at the job. It wants you know your place.

He's like an overzealous mall cop tracking down who pooped in a urinal, getting federal police involved when he gets in a gunfight with someone he wouldn't leave alone in the food court.

Despite their complicity in the evils of the Empire, a part of me can sympathize with them. Primarily in the way of they did everything they could to help the Empire and both of them were still shafted due to the Empire’s crab’s in a bucket like mentality, and ruthless indifference to people.

The thing is, having ambition and initiative is a double-edged sword in the Empire. Instead of impressing your superior and peers, they see you as threatening, as a challenge, or a rival. They have their own aspirations and the last thing they want is competition. That's why Mero went over her colleagues' heads and made a play for the top brass.
