I've done a few videos like this before where I focus on really technical practice regiments, but in this video I talk about some of the higher level and conceptual approaches I take towards music that you can apply towards 2023. Enjoy!

0:00 - Intro
1:50 - Simple is better (usually) professionally
8:08 - Simple a lot of the time sounds better
15:46 - Melody is king
21:50 - Listening is just as important as practicing
27:10 - Technique is important so you can play the simple things with excellence

Wow. That is amazing how you play the piano so good and fast. You are just like me. I can relate to what are you saying. I am blind and I’m a piano player a drummer and a guitar player. And from 2001 up to like around 2012 I was focus on playing fast and doing a lot of tricks but now I play more organized and I combined plain more simple and then I go up slowly. And I also give space to the other musicians. One thing that you can mention is that when you play more simple like around the intros and maybe if the song makes a break before the bridge or around the bridge. You can play simple and then bring up the song again by building up the cords and everything. And I love doing it. It’s really fun. I still do tricks but not everywhere. I always give A chance to the musicians. I like every musicians to be heard. But I love to play classical and soft and Jazz and merengue and salsa and hip-hop everything even rock. And smooth jazz. Maybe I can learn from you from listening to your videos. Maybe one day we can meet up. God bless you and your talent.

The freedom this guy has on piano, especially on the simple things displayed in this video, it’s exactly what I want. I can think about very similar Melodie’s all the time. But building the ability to play them instantly and accompany them with the right chord progression on the left hand, and mix it with beautiful two hand voicings, it seem such a hard skil to develop…

I'm noob at jazz, and still pretty beginner at pop,
but I was watching videos about both and especially in jazz videos people said I should avoid playing the bass when plauing in a band with a bass player.

I would guess it is the same "rule" in pop (or probably most other genres.

Is it a hard rule in worship pop music to avoid playing bass on the piano when there is a bass player in the band,
or is just a "sometimes it's okay to play the bass in the piano when there is a bass player in the band",
or am I simply missing something?

Thank you for your help, I find these lesson videos of yours super helpful!

Sam - What piano instrument were you using, on this video? This is the major struggle for a lot of us hobbyist piano men, who learn 100% by ourselves, we have no clue what instruments the professionals like you use.? Why are some of the best musicians I know called Sam or Samuel?

That's why I'll never play in a band again. I've only been in maybe 3 bands in my life as a keyboard/piano player. The rest is solo piano gigs. I don't like being in a "rock" band in bars only playing first off, behind the loud guitar player....and only playing mainly major and minor triads and seventh chords. I'm a piano player as well and I choose to play solo piano in restaurants because it's there that I can express my talent to my fullest and play whatever chords and voicings I want. I didn't want to be known as the keyboard player that fills up the sound of a rock band. Yes I sing lead as well, so I sang. But...as far as keyboard goes....I don't and didn't wanna be that guy. I like playing everything under the sun and using 50 million chords and voicings. So it was bye bye to bands a long time ago.

No, you can’t just say that melody is king, I mean that’s the hardest thng in music, some people like you are able to pull that of, but 99 percent of us just playing boring frases, it’s like saying you got to run faster than 9.86 sec 100 m, well very few people are cabable of doing so! 😊

I understand you… no dynamics, and everything is quantized. In fact, every modern worship song is built the same. I could give you the formula. I hate to be a complainer… I’m just tired of playing it.

I dare you to have a You Tube video where NO 10TH CHORDS OR STRETCHES are played in the right hand... Hasn't happened yet that I've seen so far. Stop reaching more than an octave. You're hurting people.
