"The ultimate in unwanted technology..." I think that is the opening headline on my resume.

I love these videos - I even attempted to get my best friend from high school hooked on them when he came to visit. Don't know if I succeeded but I'm a fan whether he is or not!

FYI if you're using the GOG version of Far Cry it will automatically set foliage quality to max (or perhaps beyond the max in game setting even) for some reason. This makes the game unneccesarily taxing on weaker GPUs that could run the game fine at lower settings (as seen when you go into a house and the framerate shoots up beyond 100).
I don't remember how I fixed it when I was testing it myself a couple of years ago, but I recall it having something to do with deleting some config file and then setting the settings through the launcher.
You'll know that your settings are set correctly when you set foliage to low (or maybe it says "off") and no longer have any of that tall grass that's everywhere.

It's amazing how nearly 25 years since its release, XP is still extraordinarily usable. 25 years before XP was released, the IBM PC didn't even exist yet.

Well that's one way to bring some more life into an Intel Mac, with retro windows gaming. Linux may be an option too with more modern software support, virtualization, emulators dosbox, but XP has a special place in my heart. one of the best win versions in my opinion. I have many great memories with win xp. Great video sir.

Awesome work covering this process. It means a lot to many when old hardware is repurposed.

The thing about the Apple XP drivers: you're supposed to be initially installing them from the Snow Leopard DVD, *then* running the updater.

It's still a more then powerful enough computer to slap into an arcade cabinet and turn into a pretty good MAME machine

another cool thing - you can do MSDOS emulation in XP!!! so even older classics can run on that hardware!!!

I got mine a couple years back for @50 USD, complete with the 10.5.6 disks in their original sleeves, and original "everything else" holder. Mine is bootcamped to Win7, with a C2D P7350, 4GB of memory, and a Geforce 9400. On the Mac side I've got El Capitan. It's my third one, the other 2 gave up the ghost from my tinkering with them too much -- the new one still has its spinner in it, because I don't want to risk breaking parts inside trying to change it out for an SSD. I took the CPU and memory from one of the dead ones and put it in an HP OEM board which oddly enough used the same mobile CPU and SODIMMS (MOCA-AR, if you're curious - I'm sure they aren't as cheap as when I bought mine). I only got it to use with my iPad and iPods, and I don't hardly use them anymore...
(I also have the factory E Mac disk for OSX 10.3.3)

Those old Mac's were kind of weird. In OS X they'd limit the amount of RAM given to the GPU to 256MB but in Windows it'd allocate 512MB, so yeah Windows will give a bit more life to the old Nvidia/GMA based Intel Macs... kind of ironic but hey.

You really don't need Bootcamp if you don't want to retain OS X. You just need the drivers it provides. You should be able to find those online. Then just insert the XP CD, hold down Alt? Command? Whichever it is that brings up the boot device menu, and choose the CD.

This brings back memories. This was my very first Mac. Also installed XP on it as a second OS. All worked flawlessly back then.

The trick sounds like a faulty power brick. i hope he got the power brick replaced as it is one of the few parts of a computer that can just catch on fire when everything is running normally.
