Thanks for the call out ( I did the Ralph shot) !! Yeah, lots of us did 2D blocking on some shots, especially the more crazy cartoony stuff that's impossible to reference with live action. I would allow us to get a quick idea of the shot really fast, without using the 3d rigs or even opening Maya. Then, showing it to the directors early it helps brainstorm ideas and have clarity before you actually jump to animate in CG.

uuuh. this is what’s called the artists process. some people that started with pen and paper still use these techniques to help brainstorm ideas and concepts. while others who learned from animation tools have a different approach

I remember seeing the storyboards or whatever they’re called for deleted scenes in Toy Story and thinking it would look really good if they did it in 2D with that style.

The 2D are fun to watch, because rough animation in raw forms are done in extremes ( look it up). Just as roughs from 2D looked better, or should I say, more kinetic and exciting, than the final cleanup animation.

It always depends animation have there ups and downs...but I prefer 2d

wreck it ralph is one movie that absolutely worked better in 3d, mainly because of all the video game references but also because scenes like the tapper game in the beginning wouldnt have had nearly the same effect

I just hope Disney gets word on the looney tunes movie the day the earth blew up so that they can respond to it with their own classics
