The passaggio is a tricky place in your voice to navigate. In one minute, I explain my strategies for singing in your passaggio to help overcome any fears or doubts you may have about this subject.

Think of your passaggio as a bridge between your vocal registers. The goal is to keep your sound, vibrato, and timbre consistent while traversing this vocal transition. Good luck!

I don't know how many times I've seen this in the past year, but it must be once every month or so. The 1 minute reminder is SO helpful. Thank you!

Thank you Lucas for sharing your wisdom on singing!! Your videos are very helpful and insightful. Could you make more videos about singing in the male passaggio? This is a very difficult area of voice training and more explanation and focus will help. Thank you for these videos!

Hey Lucas, specifing your "a lot of this" and beating your tummy would be tremendously helpful. You pull it in or push it out? Quite a confusion exists about

Hi. This is something I’ve been struggling to understand. And now I realise I’m not even close to understanding it. Thank you.

I know a light tenor who has a break at D# and another at F# should he reconsider been a baritone? For i have never known till now, baritones with a break of any kind at F#, interesting.

I never know whether to approach the passaggio notes from above or below. If I try to reach up to them, it sounds strained and gives the impression that I’m at the highest note in my voice. It seems easier to approach from above, and I just mean giving it a little extra support. Most people have no idea that there are registers and that you need to change gears without noticeably using the clutch!

I love Di Provenza Il Mar, Il Suol and the passagio IS the hardest part.

I just believe his approach is kind of different from the old standard. His ideas are, if understood under scientific knowledge, right, but are easily misunderstood without it. I believe that's why he tries to keep it forward, and that leads to a certain close in his upper pharynx. I've felt that same kind of sensation and sound correlated, and is possible to keep that ring/somatic vibration without trying to close something for it to happen (it's an inside indicator of chiaro). It's a matter of proper configuration of the vocal tract.
And also, the old standard goes for a more true way of saying things, their approach to sound operatic is not trying to sound operatic, but simply as themselves. That easiness of words is what Lucas is lacking a lot. It's easy to understand when comparing, and even himself would agree. Yes, he has a great voice, but it can be much better if depuring even more how one listens and understands multidisciplinarily the voice.
Giuseppe di Luca and Mattia Battistini have more tenderness and also ring, without trying to sound as anybody else or as something should sound.

But, is good always to listen people that love opera, and that's so important for this beautiful art to keep alive!!!!

Great lesson. I am working on singing my passaggio as a tenor (Maybe a lyric-spinto tenor) that starts in-between Gb4 and A4.

I have always loved the baritone voice and it is amazing how many wonderful baritones America has produced. Must be something to do with the air - etc.
Even the best less classical baritones are fro. USA, i.e. Elvis Presley, Nelson Eddy (and he was in fact an operatic baritone but became famous for his romantic musicals with Jeanette McDonald). Robert Merrill has yet to be surpassed in his duet with Jüssi Björling from The Pearl Fishers ' Au Fond du Temple Saint' - the voicrs blend so perfectly
Ihad not heard of Lucas Meacham but - oh yes. He can sing!!! And I love his articles. Recently, on our Afrikaans radio I heard the voice of Ludovic Tézier for the first time. We are so lucky with these gifted and generous singers.
Obvoously, in this sentiment I include SATB.
