This talk will look at the interface between the climate crisis and the ELT community from two perspectives. We’ll begin by considering the negative impacts of our day-to-day activities on the environment (think of energy and paper consumption and flights) and some ways of reducing this impact and making our schools greener places to learn.
John Knagg from the British Council estimated that at any one time, there are over 1.5 billion people learning English globally. What an opportunity to get involved in climate change education!
The second part of the talk will look at how we can work with our students to integrate climate topics into our classes, as a way of equipping the students to engage with the crisis.
The two parts of the talk are intimately and vitally connected. A greener school and integrated climate education. You can’t have one without the other!
