I don't even think you need good gaydar to sense that. He was a very good actor, always a strong supporting character.

This subject has been covered before…..

Wether or not he was gay is irrelevant to me, he was just a Damn great actor….

All it took to make me think he was gay is when he spoke

That was never a conjecture; it is well-known

The title of this video made me laugh out loud. A touching item: Fred Astaire penned a condolence letter following the death of Webb's mother. Postmarked October 19, 1960, it was sold online in 2006. Heritage Auctions still has a scan of it on their website. Wish I would have bid. :o)

Yes he was gay. Big deal. That was his business and I just don't get the fascination with other people's sexuality.

I can't believe your asking such a well known rhetorical question.

Unbelievably great actor. Funny as all get out in the Belvedere movies; moving in several roles. Loved his movies all my life, since early childhood.

Clifton Webb was Wonderful as Waldo Lydecker in LAURA- tried to make an over the tub tray as he used whilst typing in the bath and ATTEMPTED to eat lasagna- you guessed it- spilled… swimming with eels?!? 😖😖😖❗️

Like John Wayne, he didn't act. The person on the screen was Clifton Webb.
He was as good villain as hero. In comedy, he was the straight man to a comic world.

If he was he kept it private and probably had a rule against getting together sexually with others in the same business.

You’re asking? Duh!!! He was as closeted as they come! I love him!

Did i miss something? His mum was discussed a lot here, but not his sexuality. In any event, the more appropriate question is Could Clifton Webb have been anything else? Answer: No. Watch him in The Razor's Edge as a bitter loveable old queen. It was his best performance cuz it wasn't a performance. It was Clifton irl.

Even as a child watching space family Robinson, I took this as a given I cannot imagine anyone not being cognisant of this

Webb was an outstanding actor. As for his personal life, his preferences were a semi-open secret during his life and have been common knowledge among Hollywood movie buffs and biographers since his death.

Very good, informational and entertaining as usual but, might we now get-to THE subject of the genre it's self?
Meaning as-in . . . Edward Everett Horton?
We gossips require the full low-down here on this one.
(Ha! He was my dad's valet in the Hottentot filming days.
I consider myself most lucky to even exist!)

Did not know there was a question about his sexual preference! However, he was a good actor and I am sure he would be out today.I believe most here would know his attachment and close relationship with his mother.

Where have you been. Clifton Webb it was well known in Hollywood, that he was gay. When he was picked for “Laura” the head of the studio was against him being cast because he felt Webb was too effeminate. I’m glad that he was still hired, because he did an excellent job in that movie. He was a very good actor and he could act in drama as well as comedy
