MIDI and CV-equipped keyboard controller with eight-track sequencer

Novation today announces the next generation of SL keyboard controllers. SL MkIII is far from your typical keyboard controller. It’s an all sequencing, all dancing hub for all of your music-making tools. A centrepiece to connect, control and create with your entire setup. Computer or not. Create quickly and easily with your MIDI hardware and CV/Gate synths. Build your tracks in the eight-track polyphonic sequencer: everything in time; everything in key; every control at your fingertips.

Novation worked with Ableton® to create an unprecedented integration with Live™. SL MkIII truly pulls your sessions out of the box. The full colour LCD screens give you full visibility of your parameters, while the pads, buttons, eight faders and eight knobs get you hands-on with your music – and in any major music software, using InControl. Deep integrations with Logic® and Reason – plus HUI compatibility with Cubase, Pro Tools® and Reason – mean SL MkIII can follow you away from Ableton®, too.

SL MkIII boasts Novation's finest, most playable and expressive synth-style semi-weighted keybed, with a sprung action and Novation's highest scan rate, all tuned to the needs of the experienced player.

Key features

Absolute hardware control, taking total control directly from the internal eight-track polyphonic pattern-based sequencer
Easy integration with Ableton® Live™ or any other HUI-compatible DAW. Controlling software is made easy by recording productions from a studio centrepiece
Whether in the box or outside the box, the MIDI and analogue clock and transport controls keep everything running in time
Highly customisable mappings for hardware and software easily control everything
USB; MIDI In, Out, Out 2/Thru; three pedal inputs; Analogue Clock Out; and two CV Pitch, Gate, and Mod outputs can be used to route anything anywhere
SL MkIII's pads, buttons, eight faders and eight knobs take control of all major music software using InControl
The SL MkIII has an exceptionally high scan rate of 10kHz, giving the keyboard a huge dynamic range for expressive keyboard performance
SL MkIII's velocity-sensitive RGB pads have multiple functions: they can be used for launching clips, as steps in the sequencer, they are perfect for the finger drummer, and have polyphonic aftertouch
Components allows templates and sessions to be backed up and restored in the cloud, enabling access from anywhere in the world. All content can also be saved locally

Excellent explanation! Thank U!
I am a novice/starter. Bought Novation SL MK3/Ableton Live 11. I have a MOTU 4 interface. Cannot trigger any sound from MK 3 with or without Motu 4. I am connecting MK3 directly to the computer. Can't find any video with "Preference" settings as I am seeing with Live 11. Most tutorials are little older. Any help will be v appreciative. 🙏🙏

Hey Enrique and ADSR! Please make a new one of these for the SL MK3. I'd love to see one actually covering everything, like the features which have been added via firmware updates.

Can you control the tempo in Ableton using this? My Akai APC40 MKII can control tempo using a single encoder knob, and the level of the cue (click track volume). Can you also select multiple Solo buttons too? Thanks for the demo!

I'd love to see how and if possible using SL with Ableton for live performance. A way to use splitting, layering in SL and using with vst's in Ableton. And seeing clips name or scene name in one of the displays, with footswitch to program change and song change, without moving eyes from keyboard to the pc screen to see where I am, during live. Something that would REALLY integrate with Ableton, not only to set filter parameters etc for studio production, but for live usage!

Can you “add devices” (say, effects) via the keyboard like you can with Push 2?

with those Lights on the keys like Complete Control will this be able to connect to and respond to NI KOMPLETE CONTROL when hosted in a DAW - and light up the typical key-switches for sample libraries in Kontakt such as strings etc ( where key switches shown in colour are used to switch between pizzicato and sfortzardo etc etc?

At 2:42 you move knob 3 and it sets up the parameter under knob 2 suddenly to its maximum value. What happened there ?

Hey. Thank you for pointers. I'm a Native Instruments guy, so for me Ableton was new. Found it actually a bit more intuitive than Reaktor which is pleasantly surprising. The only thing that troubles me is this: Novation SL-MK III is ridiculously expensive as an investment, even granted it being unique in its price range. But it only works 100% with latest versions of Ableton. I already bought it and set it up, so my question is: what if something happens to my hardware (motherboard, etc)? Have I lost that Ableton 10 Live lite forever? Would I have to pay for it? Is there any other DAW software that would work in a similar fashion with SL MK III (in control) besides Ableton 10? I'm certainly not a wealthy person, and over the years, half of my Native Instruments software was torrented. I suspect it's similar here, right? One would have to wait another 3-5 years before a bunch of other DAWs would have IN CONTROL mapping settings for SL MK III? Or will it ever happen? IS MK III one of those products software manufacturers are just going to ignore completely? Grateful in advance if you can answer my questions

Are you using InControl? I have so many problems with Components and confusion.

Does this do everything that a Push 2 does? Maybe I don't need the Push anymore? (Aside from the obvious nice grid of pads and touch strip, etc)

Hi I follows the setup in the official website, and i open the same instrument with this video(airlite), but I can not control the first 4 knobs, it seems for every instrument or effects, I can only use the last four knobs, can you help me to solve it??

hello, kindly please, its possible to dimm globally all the brightness of the disco-lights on it? if they have some PWM there, it may be single place in code to change or simple refactor, but, you know... in darkness, all those bright LEDs are crazy as hell (apply to ANY current product of ANY company)

SL MKIII is not showing up under control surface for me. I have Live 10 Suite. Would anyone be able to email me the midi remote script folder for the SL MKIII? Would be located in the resources folder. C:ProgramData/Ableton/Live 10 Suite/Resources/Midi Remote Scripts. WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED!! Thank you
