British guy pronounces “Worcestershire Sauce”

As a resident of Worcestershire we tend to pronounce the shire part more like sher than shah... I would pronounce it like this Wuster-sher sauce. And it’s amazing!

In my country, people are too busy to spell "worcestshir" correctly so we just called it "kecap inggris" literally means "British Sauce" when it was brought by the dutch in the 1900s

New Hampshire (a state in America) is pronounced as “Hampsher.” The “shire” in worcestershire sauce is the same way.

Nearly - I'm from Bristol, in Gloucester, & we have always called this 'Wooster' sauce - using the first & third syllables :)

In many spanish speaking countries it's simply called "salsa inglesa" which means "english sauce".

It's funny, because my long-term American living English professor (since at least the '80s) told me that true English speakers say "sure" instead of "shire." By her class-long lecture (what a joke), the correct pronunciation is "War-schestur-sure."

I tried to correct her one day by saying Worcestershire was pronounced "Wuster, " and she blew up on me and held an obvious grading animosity towards me for the rest of the semester, even after I showed her countless clips of born-and-raised Britons saying "wuster sauce."

I think she felt her "exotic accent" made her an expert on a language/accent she long-ago left behind for her American lifestyle.
