A caller named Lee, to the Jeremy Vine show, believes that the UK will rejoin the EU, but it won't be in the distant future, instead it will be in a few years time. Lee is disappointed with the way he voted because of what Boris Johnson had promised and the problems he faces when travelling abroad. But when can the UK rejoin the EU?

1:40 you are not treated like second class citizens, you are being treated as non citizens. So basically what you voted for

He thinks that the British are treated as a second class citizen in the EU.
No, as any citizen of a third country. Just like an EU citizen is not allowed to stand in the same queue in the UK as the British.

Apparently he still suffers from British exceptionalism.

The same kind of ignorance that led him to vote for Brexit, is the same kind of ignorance that leads him to believe that we can just rejoin when we want!

I'm in my 60's and voted remain . Cheers Lee I'll probably never see the benefits of the UK being in the EU again.

I love how brits think that all they have to do is ask and the EU will say yes. As a brit who lives in the EU I can tell you that there's no appetite to have a whinging, exception seeking Britain back.

"I'm British, how DARE you treat me as some, some, ORDINARY person!" British exceptionalism, like American exceptionalism ("We're the BEST!") will be the UK's downfall.

2nd class citizen ? This guy doesn't even understand he is NOT ANYMORE an EU citizen. Just a citizen of a third country. Just like any EU citizen going to UK.

The real question now is "Would the EU want the clown show of the UK back".

It's insane that in a country of 68 million people. 17.4 million is all it takes to commit to the biggest peace-time blunder in history.

The caller is being ridiculous :" they treat us like second-class citizens, they make us Queue..."..
1/ you are not second-class citizens. You have chosen to hand back your EU citizenship. You are just foreigners with the same status vis-a-vis the EU as Peruvians or Kazakhs enjoy in the UK. You chose that.
2/they don't make you queue like it's a revenge, they apply rules that the UK promoted when it was a EU member.

I voted for Scottish independence and to stay in the EU. Double whammy. It really grinds my gears when I hear about people who voted leave complaining now. It’s too late. Best we can do is make friends in Europe and show a bit of loyalty to them, especially with what’s going on in America now.

A 90 minute queue for passport control at Schipol yesterday; and that was on a quiet day, not the holiday season.
It was almost worth it to think that half the people in the queue likely voted for it. If so, they were keeping very quiet. Nothing but a few wry smiles when I said "Thank you, Nigel" rather loudly when chatting to another guy.

"What I was hoping for was all the positives promised by Boris Johnson"

I think I've spotted the problem here...

I am currently 57 - I want to see us rejoin within my lifetime. I dont want us to join too soon. I think we NEED to feel the pain to remember the stupid decision that was taken. I also want to see the older generation who voted significantly for Brexit, to shuffle off and the youngsters to come through.

This caller got what he voted for. These people were warned what it would be like, they just shouted “Project fear” etc. so here we are.

For goodness sake, he should have thought about what we would be losing before he voted to leave!!!

So his reasons are basically everything we told him, but we got told to shut up because it was 'project fear'

I'm 67 and have been a bitter opponent of Brexit since it first began to be discussed. I would love to see the UK back in the EU, the irritation caused by leaving just keeps growing, but I despair at seeing it happen in my lifetime. I'm still hoping but it seems unlikely to me, which redoubles my anger and embarrassment at the fact that we left in the first place.
