House Republicans push bill to ban noncitizen voting, which is already illegal

Federal law makes it illegal for noncitizens to vote in statewide or national elections. Nevertheless, House Republicans are pushing legislation to make noncitizen voting illegal. CBS News immigration and politics reporter Camilo Montoya-Galvez joins to set the record straight.

As an immigrant who has been in the states for over 19yrs (6yrs student visa, 10yrs work visa and 3yrs on green card), I never dared to even have a thought of voting even as a permanent resident here. I believe voting rights are supposed to be kind of a sacred right only deserved for the people who have been supporting the country all their lives or the people who have made a concrete decision to naturalize and become a full-fledged citizen moving forward. As per myself, I love the States but I just can’t make up my mind to throw away my original nationality yet because my home country doesn’t allow dual citizenship. So when I hear some immigrants do that without a shame, I feel enraged… in my opinion, it doesn’t matter what their status is. Their legal status here should be void as soon as they vote because they are breaking the laws as an immigrant and disrespecting the country that has accepted you with open arms😢

In Paso Robles California DMV they're signing them up to vote as fast as they'll come into the office I watched more than 25 military age men getting their IDs in the California DMV all of them registering to vote

Well, who knows? All you need is a driver license or ssn to vote in some states. If you vote legally, you don’t need to be afraid of anything. Just pass the bill.

it's against federal law for none citizens to vote in the US; why are they/We discussing this?

Some states do not require ID to vote.. so this is a great precaution to assist in illegals that are not citizens to vote.
