This is an excellent video! Full credit to this channel. I have been using a huge 17 inch gaming laptop to run my Daws and Plug Ins. However I want my music making set up to become mobile so I am looking to start recording soon on an ultra book or a surface. This was a very informative video for me.

If anyone's interested in using Cubase on a touch screen with some multi touch functionality and a customisable GUI that is created for touch, then you can look at DTouch, which will run on any supported touch screen. Raven is also an option but more expensive because it requires one of THEIR branded touch screens.
Of course, this is outside of the scope of this video, since it's more than likely not supported with DTouch.
Just an FYI.

Nice to come back to these 5/6 year old vids .. This is the realm of what you can find for next to nothing. I'm setting up a Surface Laptop 2 I rescued from recycling (broken screen - replaced for £30, via ebay in a different case colour) which is very similar spec to the i5 surface pro. Music for ALL ! (well... buy a DAW, but get one from 2017 secondhand, licence transfer)

I know, this Video is older but a very good one.
For me, Cubase 10 runs well on a Toshiba Portege Z20t with Core m7-6Y75.

Robin...on my Surface apron I keep getting pop up warnings from Avast and winzip and all sorts of horrific hateful PC issues. It like I brought my SP just to keep making it work properly. I bonded with my iPad. It’s just works do smoothly. The SP...it’s not my friend. That might sound a little daft but it’s valid to me. Any idea how to stop these pop up windows popping up? Can I shoot them?

Not sure if you mentioned it but, will there be any difference in performance when using it plugged-in to the power source, as opposed to not?

Thank you for your good video!
I have a question, but I also use same spec surface, 8gb corei5. Using midi keyboard through usb hub, it cause a little bit latency so hard to make music. Do you have latency on your surface? And if you know some solutions, i would like you to tell me about it! Thank you.

While this video is years old, I just ran across it and it's priceless! I was looking at buying an ipad 4 and using Cubasis until I decided to look into a ipad sized tablet with the ability install to and run Windows, a full version of Cubase (I have Cubase 10.5) plus 3rd party plugins without the heft, size and weight of a laptop for occasional travel. I want to be able to compose something on the tablet but still be able to export it to my main workstation using the same plugins but I don't understand about needing a hard driv to put Cubase and plugins and libries on like you do a desktop computer. Can you shed a little light on that? Thanks!

Ik have a Surface Book 2 and with ASIO4ALL I couldn't got the headphone output to work unless I have a headphone plugged in before launcing Cubase. Somehow the output always defaults to speakers when you configure ASIO4ALL within Cubase. Weird...

Some questions:

1) Did you actually use the external sound card in these tests? (That reduces cpu usage).

2) Also, how many connectors can you plug in a USB dongle in the surface at the same time? (Can you use 2 license dongles on a non-powered usb 3 hub?) (Or 2 license dongles + 1 midi controller? + a sound card?) I know the surface dock is powered, which I want to avoid. (At least for the 2 USB dongles, while using the official dock for the external sound card + other peripherals)

I am considering to purchase the Surface Pro or the Surface Book, looking for possibilities on connectivity, creativity and power. The idea is to have something portable, not-noisy and with more creative touch possibilities than the current laptops.

Possibly to make music on the coach, and away from home, or somewhere I might not have so much access to D/C power. I'd like to connect 1 usb for the cubase license dongle + 1 for eastwest dongle + possibly 1 for some usb controller (it could be wireless) and the external sound card (problematic. Too many ports). I wish the Surface Pro had more ports! it would be the perfect machine. Perhaps I will need to go for the surface book instead.

3) Is the Surface Pro touch toolbar also available on the surface Book 2?

PS: I believe after having seen this that I might be able to run 14 Eastwest VST instruments on the Surface Pro, which makes me see it as a better option than the laptop sometimes. If i could run all those instruments on this vid, with no need of external sound cards and connect just the dongles, it might work.

Think i’d rather get a laptop!! Never made any sense to me these surface pros with keyboards plus peripherals and etc and etc. Whats so portable?

Do previous versions of Cubase include touchscreen support? Like, Cubase Pro 5?

Do you think that the new 8th gen intel mobile processors will give us more performance? having more cores but lower clockspeed? Do daws benefit from more cores?
