Restaurant Workers Fight To End The Subminimum Wage

Restaurant workers in New York are paid below minimum wage and depend on tips to survive. Many are forced to put up with abuse and harassment just to take home a living wage. New York Governor could end the subminimum wage today with one signature.

When I was 16-18 I was a waitress at a small town restaurant and many old men would drop silverware on purpose to make us pick it up. They would touch our waists. They would say gross things. I watched one literally lick my coworkers ear when she bent over to try to hear what he was ordering. It was DISGUSTING. I hated working as a waitress because for every super sweet customer I had there was a creep, a bad tipper, and a jerk. There were just so few exceptionally nice customers that going to work was a nightmare. Our business even offered free food on Monday nights and the waitresses were dealing with 100+ customers each in 4 hours time. We were so overwhelmed and had so many rude or creepy interactions. It was the most draining experience. Anyway, thanks for sharing this video and shedding light on this!

Wages have been stagnant for 50 some years. Minimum wage should be $21 plus dollars.

That's why Tips exist is so that restaurants can pay below minimum wage. And it's said that tips are supposed to be 10% but let me ask you this 10% before or after taxes?

Higher the minimum wage, higher the cost to live, , , , don't think $15 and $20 will save your lifestyle, it won't... I don't know what kind of management let's customer treat their staff like that. That's not the customer fault that's the management problem. Smh!!

I had a handful customers so bad when I was a waitress that I returned their tips.
That why to this day I over tip to hopefully make up for the bad customers servers get
