As someone with a pale completion myself, I don't think people are purposely buying makeup three shades darker than their skin tone. Rather, it's because the paler you are, it can be hard to find one that not only matches well but stays matched and doesn't oxidize and turns a darker shade; or god forbid that weird orangey yellow color; later in the day. It honestly took me a few brands and different shades to find ones to match my skin.

15:50 Now I can't help but think about the lingering social stigma against men having well-trained glutes and not have their sexuality questioned. You always hear about women being praised for having nice behinds like it's supposed to be an exclusively feminine trait, but for men it's been mostly about rocking those 6-packs to "prove their masculinity". I'm all about seeing even more of a change in such views of both sexes - let women have chiseled abs and men have nice asses. It all requires rigorous workout and a balanced diet anyway.
