Unpopular opinion: This is the best song of the whole movie. I like it better than How Far I'll Go. Not to say it's a bad song at all, but this song is so amazing.

I think you slightly misunderstood - the voice of Moana is Auliʻi Cravalho, who IS Polynesian (Hawaiian), but she's lighter skinned, so she wanted someone who's darker-skinned like Moana to represent the character live. I saw an interview where she mentioned wanting someone younger to play the character as well, since she's already in her 20s & Moana's supposed to be a teen (& who knows when filming will even start?). So it's not that she's bad representation for the character exactly, but that she wants more Polynesian girls to also be represented.
Disney's (rightfully) getting a lot of negative feedback for hiring a lighter-skinned girl to play Nani in the upcoming live Lilo & Stitch movie, so they need to pay more attention to their representation if they want to keep fans happy.

Moana’s mother’s voice is Nicole Scherzinger. Would love to see you react to more of her. She’s got quite a few performances of Broadway songs. And her version of Beauty and the Beast with Luke Evans is beautiful.

I sob when I hear “I am Moana” I lost my grandma at a young age (11, I am now 25) so when I hear this song I get teary eyed thinking of the stuff I miss about her and the stuff I missed out on

My single quibble with this song is that they didn't let Chief Tui's voice actor sing in this song. I love Chris Jackson, don't get me wrong, but Temuera Morrison is ALSO a beautiful singer and it makes no sense that he wasn't allowed to sing this song for the character. He didn't even get to sing it in the Māori dub, just to add extra salt to the wound!
