Landed on this vid as my online instructor did not explain properly! Thank you for being so succinct! (For anyone struggling to get the clip, the shape you are clipping to must have a fill - doesnt seem work without one - I was trying to clip to a shape with no fill and it wouldnt work)

lets say i wanted to freehand drag a shape, how would i do it? (im trying to completely cover an image but the frame tool wont get it all)

This doesn't work. When you left click the layer and hold alt, it makes a duplicate of that layer. (PC)

Folks, make sure the cursor is on the line between the two layers or the masking thingy won't show up. Anybody else spend 30 minutes trying this before they figured that part out?

Ok this isnt working for me. I'm trying to add the clipping masks only to areas of my image which I have selected, i.e. not the whole image. So I have a painting of flowers, and I have selected their centres, and I want only those centres to be gold, but nothing happens when I use your technique. Any suggestions please?
