Finding top dead center at 2 a.m. with my father on his '85 Dodge D-100 slant six 225, in the rain under a tarp in the winter, 10 years old, watching him turn the engine with a socket wrench and a 'cheater bar'. Listening for the air coming out the spark plug socket till it stops then I yell 'hold' ! My father's smiling face as he crawls out from under the truck and says 'good job'. Then watch him time it, Best memories to this day. the light' ! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

But yeah in a clean room with the motor on a lift with a big fancy wheel is cool too.

Some people could just never understand the level of appreciation others have for these types of skills and knowledge. It's like the work of an artist. It's more than just accuracy. So much more.

Well this goes much more in depth to me just putting a screwdriver in the spark plug hole on cylinder 1 haha

Measure twice, set it once. Perfect illustration to verify TDC

Yes it took me a min. To catch on but i got it. I don’t work on motors much anymore. But admire people that do. Yes its an art. I would say handed down to a person from birth. But for the people who didn’t and you started it with out any knowledge from the family tree. Hats off to ya! And thank you. For your dedication and hard work.

You work with the load in “one direction” go past your 30 degrees and come back to it. Remember your working with clearance stack up. Many people don’t think about that.

Thank you so much brother I've seen people messing with that wheel and they never explained it like you just did! I'll keep that in my toolbox 💪🏼

Degreeing a cam is a lost art but very important to have a good build and good running engine.

I've read from several syndicated publications, this is the first time I've actually seen it recorded. Cool!

Exactly correct 👌, people sometimes don't have a clue how is like to put a engine "specifically race engines" on the correct point!!! To get the most of the engine, in durability and on working in 💯 perfection of performance! Sorry for my not so good English!

Fascinating! I still don’t fully understand, though. Thank you for the education.

when you do something long enough you learn how to “feel” when it’s just right , learned this quickly in diesel mechanics had an old school teacher wasn’t always by the book he tought you how to feel for a lot of stuff before teaching you to use the tool cause you won’t always have the tool with you sometimes, but if your new i’d recommend having the tools n whatnot cause there’s not many people around that can teach old school tricks anymore

The fact that there are people commenting on this video, gives me hope and I smile that not everything is lost ...😊

I always just lined them and put them in. Works great. I was not in a pro shop, but it worked 😂
