From Oxford University Press "Atmospheric Energy Imbalance: Global Warming in the Pipeline" only half the energy entering the atmosphere is leaving. Dr. James Hansen, former NASA chief climate scientist, one of the authors, says "A lot of people haven't caught on yet, they will." This report is already out of date, being several years old now. The study covered 18 years of direct measurement via satellite. The amount of energy being retained doubled in that time, and the rate of retention was accelerating. This report is a reprint of the original, which did not have the "Global Warming in the Pipeline" subtitle. None of the standard climate models predicted this. It will get hotter.

It is not climate change _per se_ that is the problem. Climate has always changed, albeit slowly in most cases. It's a natural, ongoing process that has always been present.
The problem today is _the rate of change_ - about 4000 times faster than natural climate change. Changes are taking in mere years that would normally take millennia.
There were only a handful of times in Earth's history where the climate changed this fast, and they all led to global mass extinctions.

There is nowhere near enough being done to tackle climate change. New licences and exploration ensures only rising temperatures when it was declared over a decade ago we need to keep 80% of known reserves in the ground. 2/3 rd of the energy used is used to convert energy from one form to another before its final end use. Renewable energy short circuits that waste of energy so would need approximately 1/3 rd of the energy we currently use. Energy efficiency slashing nitrogen usage, a large scale switch to public transport, an end to private jets, predominantly plant based diets cuts that energy usage even more.
