Why People Buy Art | My Opinion

Hi friends!

In today's video I want to talk about the reason I believe people buy art for!

I'm recording this video following a question I was asked about the topic.

I also believe some artists don't clearly see why people buy art, which leads to some limiting beliefs about the possibilities and opportunities to sell art.

The main reason I believe people buy art for, is the ARTIST. People want to say they have an XYZ's painting.

For the rest of the reasons, watch the vid (;

And we'll talk again soon!

I buy art because it gives me joy to look at it. I really don't care who made it but I do suppose I would care if I were buying it for an investment. I have also purchased art because I liked the person who made it and I felt good about supporting them and there have been other times when I've bought a piece of art to remind me of the occasion.

If the only work that hangs in our homes or workspaces is our own, then we are surrounding ourselves with ourself and the only success we'll find is with an audience of one – ourselves. However, in buying art, we create a collection of works by other people that are vastly different from the work we do, it serves to inspire, motivate, encourage, challenge, and sometimes, even repel us and make us want to create more of our own work. Buying art is good commerce for both an artist and a consumer, as well as a community. Why do people buy window treatments? Car rims? Plants? Music? There are far too many reasons to innumerate, but it all comes down to communication. When people come into my home, they see works of all kinds. I buy art because art is representational of life, in a moment, captured uniquely through one communicator's eye and mind. Sorry to go on so long. Fun topic, for sure! Cheers!

I am a full time professional artist and the main reason people buy my abstract paintings is because they feel an emotional connection to the piece. The price most times does not affect the sale. In terms of "good" art is a matter of opinion, very subjective. I hear that you keep questioning the value of art indicating that you have the belief that art is of little value, which is a very unfortunate belief considering you are trying to teach people to create.. The MYTH of the "starving" artist is just that a myth and we have been brainwashed to have these unfortunate beliefs. The value of art is that we as humans LOVE ART! My collectors feel a connection to the art that I create and they want to have it in their home to look at it everyday and continue to feel the pleasure of art! And if you want to sell your art you need to learn to talk about it and to know how to sell! Thanks for your videos..

I have only purchased a couple of pieces of art, but each time it was because I really liked the painting. I think that is the mind set of an occasional buyer rather than a collector. I really enjoy your videos and look forward to my daily Liron time.

Years ago when I lived in Florida, I bought a painting. I have never been able to read the signer's name. It's either oil or acrylic. It reminded me of Bob Ross and his style of painting. I paid around $50 for it. I still have it although, it has some minor damage from being in storage. I bought it because I liked it. Typically, I do not buy art because I have no where to display it.

Very interesting. I buy art thats bring me joy to look at and to help support other local artists :) I do agree that most of our own favorites as creators are not often our best sellers with an audience.

I think only very wealthy investors buy artist name. Most buy for "it will go good in my living room, bedroom, etc.". Others buy as a souvenir of a place they've been.

I like to buy art and hand made items. That is how everything started for me. I loved buying homemade cards and eventually just started making my own.
I have a lot of wall space and I love art. I have, in the past, bought art because I liked the artists but not particularly the art. That has never worked out because I don't ever look at it and when I see it I get a negative vibe. It would have felt better to just donate the cash. I am experiencing some problems now that I am creating art. I am a little more critical of the art itself. I know what I don't like and can no longer appreciate a piece just for the art. It now has to satisfy the artist in me.

People buy stuff because they REALLY believe their feelings. You don't buy a car because it is a big dirty, noisy and smelly machine. That's what it is. You buy it because it gives you the feeling of independence and maybe freedom or something similar. Our feelings are our biggest truth. They create what we are and how we see our life. So I think you are right. We buy art because we really believe in the value of the art and the artist. We like the feeling of owning it. To have something special and of value. And we buy art because we really like the feeling we get when we look at it. However this feeling may look like.

hmmmm interesting thoughts. i do not normally buy art, if i like it i will usually go home and make my own version of it or just do without. one of the few pieces i did buy was done specifically for me by a total stranger who only knew me by what stood in front of him but he nailed my personality, my dream state. idk how many would call it art but i do and it really touched me. it was a spray can art before it became popular. it is one of my main inspirations still, if i feel blocked i just look at it and dream. so for me i would have to say something touches me deep, then i would buy it if priced in my budget.

Great tips...I'm just starting to sell my watercolors and need the info in this vid👍🏻 I have invested in art, in the past, because of the reputation and character of the artist. Subject matter/color/size came next. The price was set by him, I believe generally, on size and subject matter.

I liked your video. While I agree with your view that you have to be famous to sell art. For this you have to do a lot of hard work including a large collection and then exposure through various mediums. More importantly you have to be a good communicator. There are curators, for them it is a business, and there are buyers like art lovers, architects and museums where you sell your work. I think it is as much a part of business of making you famous.

I think your name is enough to sell your art.
"Ayo, I bought this painting from Liron Yanconsky"
"Ayo, he sounds like a composer, fancy af yeah I'll buy that"
Your name makes you sound like you write music instead of making art haha

more than try to understand why people buy art, is more intrigue to understand why we do art and why we want someone else to have it???? FOR THE LOVE OF MONEY!!!! I really don't think so.... I do art because is the way I escape reality and fly my soul to a different plane of existence... I paint for me and to please my soul... if by any chance I sell it, then is
an added benefit to it.... I will never be a rich man through my art.... but even Van Gough was a terrible marketer for his art.... SO!!!! just have fun with it and ENJOY... that's my believe.
