With the pendulum off of the movement, the crutch moves rapidly - seems strange. When the pendulum is hung it runs for about a minute and quit.

Most modern Grandfather Clocks have a self-adjusting beat, as does that Kieninger, just give the pendulum as big a swing as you can, and it will automatically adjust itself.
If a self-adjusting beat clock won't stay running after you swing the pendulum as far as you can without hitting the side, then most likely the clock needs to be cleaned & serviced properly or has wear. You shouldn't have to manually adjust a self-adjusting beat clock.
You have to distinguish whether or not you have a self-adjusting or manual beat, you shouldn't be able to push the pendulum hanger on a manual beat clock that easily. If you continue to run your clock without cleaning and servicing it properly, it will cause wear and require restoration, ie, bushings.

One of the cable threads which feed through the pulley came free from the anchor. I cannot snap in the end of the cable back into the anchor. Is there a way to snap it back in?

This definitely did not work for my grandfather clock and it felt just wrong. I am going to try it not as leveled and see if that works. When it was originally un level it seemed better. Everyone said to level the clock and then it was out of beat.
