The issue with the doors and fences is that they are a solid surface in the code so there technically aren’t holes there. This allows resource packs to change the textures of those items more easily

Funfact: this is due to how the game was in its early years. Custom shapes like doors, fences etc etc were alot harder to create than just a big block.
Even harder to make would be lectern etc. But since 1.14 there have been additions to minecraft to make these hit boxes alot easier to be made

Okay, the door, and trapdoor, I've always understood to be solid, as if there were a glass window pane there. The fences, and iron bars are a little weird, but I imagine they are thet way, so thet their models act consistently despite texture packs, and sech.

this video becomes very ironic considering that minecraft is literally the easiest game to implement hitboxes since everything is a cube, there is no way any model/hitbox could escape even one pixel, so on theory the hitbox and model should overlap each other perfectly

ive always assumed the transparent parts of the doors and trapdoors were supposed to be windowpanes and therefore solid

Beds might actually make a rather inexpensive option for PVP stratagies, Imagine digging a two block deep hole in the ground, using some cheap stone slabs to prop yourself up to meet the height of the bed, maybe with crouching to get it just right, the only way to hit you would be for the enemy to get into your trench, or for them to dig a similar structure next to you. It would probably work best in a team based scenario so people can continuously protect the trench, like the trenches during the world wars. It would be extremely interesting to see how a large two teams PVP might work. Maybe people would use a flying machine with some on board redstone clock to drop lava over the trenches once it reaches them? How would that work? Perhaps activated from the back by an arrow launched by a tnt cannon using a target block? So many interesting ideas could come out of a minecraft war server.

i think fences are like that so they can't let silverfish or endermites through (or baby chicken), you know, it's supposed to be a barricade, and when you make a chicken farm, you don't want the baby chicken to run away, so that's why they made the hitbox even in the hole.

While it is possible for the holes in doors and trapdoors to be made so that arrows can go through, the simplest way I can think of is with a bunch of separate box colliders making up the door and trap door and just proper spacing where needed, which is just extra hassle for something so minor.

The whole point of an iron door is that it is more "secure" than a wooden one. Part of its' purpose would be defeated if you could just shoot through it. All the fence/door variations also have the same hitboxes, and not all of them have holes.

They really should make it so you can shoot through fences, therefore you can shoot someone far away but they can't shoot you. It would drastically improve mc warfare
