How hackers can steal your data using simple crocodile clips? #shorts

In this video, you’ll find out how sniffing with twisted pairs works.

Sniffing is a kind of attack that involves listening to our data, transmitted through the network. Hackers can, with the help of special tools or software, eavesdrop on traffic and watch in real time what information is coming in and out of the computer.

Your passwords, documents, photos, and any and everything could end up in the hands of another person.

For some reason, people often think that this requires some kind of expensive tools or equipment. But in this video, you’ll see how hackers can eavesdrop on network traffic using simple crocodile clips.

Let me send you a PDF to explain why that is way too much work.

Now it reminds me of that meme in my cybersecurity class that says "Layer 1 attack", and it's a picture of an Ethernet cable being cut. 😆

Did you know your house can be broken into with equipment from a local hardware store?

the real victims here are the ethernet cables getting abused

Let's Facepalm all electronic engineers. Where to start and where to finish. Crocodile clips over the wire's insulation is a very well known solution for good connection. Also don't forget that the other pairs in an ethernet connection is useless.

You can also just cut the wire apart and put both ends in a bucket. You can always sort the packets collected overnight later

yeah sure, tapping only into one pair out of four will totally do the trick. Even if you used all 8 wires, it's very likely the signal timing will be way off. Odds are quite high this is plain BS.

If you had access to a networks ethenet cable it's pretty much game over 😅

I use Wireshark quite often to monitor my networks, but connecting crocodile clips would've never crossed my mind. I'd probably be more likely to install an old hub in the middle (unlike a switch, they send all traffic on all ports), and then connect my own network cable to that instead.. it's just so much cleaner, and doesn't leave the obvious clues that a chopped up wire would.

loved the connection to the insulated wires

Pings .254 from PC, sniffs ICMP echo requests from .254 to .10 😂.
Job well done 🎉.

It's really annoying when someone comes on my table while I am using an ethernet cable with my laptop instead of WiFi and just slices my cable and attaches crocodile clips without me even realising.

What bs lol. For ethernet connection to work you need at minimum 2 pairs of wires. For rx and tx. One pair won't do shit and you can't connect to network adapters in parallel. That would not work if you have access to the wire then you can terminate full rj45 to both sides, drop a smart managed switch and set of one of the ports to monitor. That would sent all the traffic passing through the switch to that port and you would be able to capture or see anything that is passing through that line reliabily.

Thanks for the demostration!
Will be sure to test it out

Back in the day, a cable with an rj11 plug on one end and alligator clips on the other meant to tap into a phone line was called a beige box.

There ain't no way you're actually getting signal out of those crocodile clips
