I wonder what your Mac USB port is rated for as well as the cable. The speeds you observed are about half the 2000 MB/s (20 GB/s) maximum the device states it is capable of transferring. I was curious if either your cable or the USB port were the limiting factor or if the device really doesn't come that close to the maximum rated speed?

The other thing to check is, many of these drives in small enclosures experience is degraded performance with prolonged use because of heat. So, the drives do well at the beginning of a long transfer, then become thermally throttled because they get hot. I would be curious if this device is able to dissipate the heat to maintain it transfer speeds say moving large RAW files to the device after a long shoot?
