Jay, I usually don't post comments but i have to TOTALLY agree with what you said here. Your words were "I will ALWAYS recommend an SSD to anyone looking to speed up their computer if they are running a hard drive, and not an SSD." I 100% agree with this. I have told many people this is the past and i believe it is, hands down, the best upgrade you can do to a computer if your looking for faster boot times/application boot times. I loved that you said that because its 100% what i have been saying for years now and 100% true! Great video Jay, well done!

Ya, I'd still probably just do a fresh install of windows rather than a clone, if it were an older PC and he upgraded from 7/8 then he probably has a bunch of junk data lying around on the machine.

I've installed 128gig SSD's into several old PC's and laptops and every single time, it's made a fairly significant difference in overall speed, not just boot times.

A fresh windows install was not a factor as every one of the installs was done by cloning the existing drive.

The 100% disk usage is actually a common problem for windows 10 users who are using mechanical hard drives. It's an entirely inaccurate representation of the hard drive's usage, the hard drive might just be at 5% usage and will show as 100%. Disabling the Superfetch service seems to solve this issue for many people.

I have run SSD's since 2009 as a boot drive. The first one I had was put into a q6600 and I was blown away with boot times. Great performance upgrade for your friend Jay.

Couldn't agree more, it took me ages to convince my brother to just replace his laptop HDD with a SSD, he was thinking of buying a new laptop instead. I'd say for a average user who only watches Youtube and surfs the internet, a SSD upgrade is more important than a CPU or GPU upgrade.

Also why does your friend have his $500 PC watercooled? Wouldn't watercooling cost almost as much as the cost of the hardware it's cooling?

Just done the SSD upgrade on my old 775 xeon Asus P5Q and its probably the best upgrade ive done in a long time, thanks Jay

Great take on how much an SSD can "pep" up an older system. If you are looking for a utility to measure boot times, "bootracer" works pretty well for that. Keep up the good work, thank you!
