👩🏽‍💻 I'm Dr. Becky Smethurst, an astrophysicist at the University of Oxford (Christ Church). I love making videos about science with an unnatural level of enthusiasm. I like to focus on how we know things, not just what we know. And especially, the things we still don't know. If you've ever wondered about something in space and couldn't find an answer online - you can ask me! My day job is to do research into how supermassive black holes can affect the galaxies that they live in. In particular, I look at whether the energy output from the disk of material orbiting around a growing supermassive black hole can stop a galaxy from forming stars.

I was a summer intern at NASA for Nancy Roman in 1979. She had hoped to stay on at NASA until Hubble launched, but because of delays in the shuttle program, decided to retire in September 1979 (replaced by Ed Weiler, who I also worked for). I assume she was invited to the shuttle launch that carried the Hubble into orbit. Got a mild thrill when I heard they were naming the observatory for her - how many people get to know someone that a space observatory is named after?!

I'm sure we'll get more comments about BetterHelp on this video, so I wanted provide some context. I can guarantee you that Becky has seen these comments and doesn't like it anymore than you do. I'm guessing she signed a contract with them for a certain number of ad deals before finding out about their practices. For a YouTuber on the smaller side (in the grand scheme of things), it could be very problematic to break the contract or, worse, say anything about stopping her support. There are many more parties involved than just Becky and BH, and it could have lasting repercussions. The biggest problem overall is that BH is very, very litigious. I'd bet confidently that the contract will run out and she'll cut off her involvement with them.

Mental health is an important thing. However betterhelp structured the company the way that is unhealthy for its contractors.
Which would lead to a sub-par service for your money.
If you deal with such issues, you will better find local help. It will be a better solution for you.
Please do not believe ads in youtube without investigate its validity and effectiveness.

I so appreciate all the help with identifying the importance of each new telescope, the discoveries they hope to make and why they matter. And for those unhappy with the ads, please just don’t use the products and stop wasting our time with complaints.

I had an epiphany a few years back, while cleaning up a horrible mess, which is odd.
In around 2017 or 2018 I moved in with my dad as he had reached a point where he was needing help with every day tasks.
It was while cleaning up a particularly bed mess (while dad made the mess he wasn't responsible for it) I realized that providing care for someone you love it's not a burden, it's a joy.
Sometimes it's more joyful than at other times but it is never a burden. Even when it is annoying or frustrating, but it is never a burden.
Keep that in mind if you need help from your loved ones, it's an opportunity for your loved ones to show the love they feel for you.
