Ok Guys! No, these printers are not the same! I'm not sure why I get get so many comments about the printers being identical, but, lets take a look inside!

Hi Peter, thanks for the comparison, it's great to see the real differences between the two printers. However I can't agree with your conclusion based on the fact that the EPAX has a bigger heatsink. It has a bigger heatsink, because the LED array has twice the power output & needs a bigger heatsink. It is a faster (& therefore better) printer because it has a more powerful LED. The heatsink on both printers is probably the smallest (cheapest) that would cool the respective LED arrays sufficiently.

Hello, Peter!I I love your videos with is grate in detales. I have epax x1 n dj 3d printer. What will be the best castable resine for a usual casting proces in your opinion. I donnot cast myself. Thank you!

You can flash the epax firmware on the Mars, and turn it (at least software wise) into an epax, it works. This allows you to use the normally unused network port which mars firmware doesn't support. Be aware that the Mainboard with network port is only on the older versions of the mars, on the newest versions they changed the Mainboard into one without that port. I am not exactly sure from which version on they use the newer board. Mine is an M03 and still has it. M05 doesn't. Not sure about M04 though.

How about the Mars PRO?
Any improvement?
Thanks!

I like both of these printers and recommend either over the godawful Anycubic offerings. With that said, with almost a $150 price delta between them, the Epax X1 should offer some significant upgrades over the Mars. Note that the Mars is supposedly using a 40w lamp like the Epax (and the exposure time recomendations between the 25w Anycubic Photon and the 40w Elegoo mars prove this out), so the main difference in the power supply design is NOT specific to the power of the LED lamp. I'm torn if moving from an external DC power adapter to one located inside of the printer is good or bad, as technically the power supply generates heat and is itself subject to premature failure if exposed to constant high heat, so placing it inside of the chassis is adding heat where you're trying to remove it, and replacement is more complex in the event of a failure (which is more likely given it's location in a high heat area). I was unable to tell from the video, but are the FANS attached to the heat-sink under the LED matrix the same size in both printers, or is the Epax smaller?

I think the biggest benefits of the Epax over the Mars is the vastly superior Z-rail design in the Epax, the upgraded non-FEP resin vat (prints sticking to the FEP is probably the biggest new user complaint about all of these printers), and the fast, US-based tech support offered by Epax. I'm not sure how fast the z-axis on the Epax moves compared to the Mars (which is notably faster than the Photon-S) because it doesn't have a profile in Chitubox, this would be an interesting thing to compare.

Thanks for doing the work on this, your reviews are always interesting and thought provoking!

Good comparison but you did not compare mechanics or very important Z-axis, which one is better?

I'd be gutted if the Epax X1 wasn't a lot better. Currently in the U.K. the Mars is £229.99 and the Epax X1 is £475.00 . Question is, Is it twice as good?

If you couldn't get the X1....would you hesitate on the Photon S or Elegoo Mars Pro? Or would you wait for EPAX's to come back in stock....?

Do you really find there's any difference in resolution?. There shouldn't be so much difference apart from faster speed. Well, maybe the z axis in the x1 makes a difference aswell as the elegoo is a meh.
