Poetry of Place: 2019 National Book Festival

Natasha Trethewey discussed "Monument: Poems New and Selected" and Jenny Xie discussed "Eye Level: Poems" at the 2019 Library of Congress National Book Festival in Washington, D.C.

- Natasha Trethewey was U.S. Poet Laureate at the Library of Congress in 2012-2014. Her poetry collection "Native Guard" received the Pulitzer Prize. Her first book, "Domestic Work," was the winner of the Cave Canem Poetry Prize for best first book by an African American poet. Trethewey was named poet laureate of Mississippi the same year she became U.S. Poet Laureate. She is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and received the Heinz Award for Arts and Humanities in 2017. She is also a member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters. Trethewey's most recent poetry collection is "Monument: Poems New and Selected."

- Jenny Xie is the author of "Eye Level: Poems," recipient of the Walt Whitman Award and the Holmes National Poetry Prize from Princeton University, and a finalist for the National Book Award in Poetry, the PEN Open Book Award and the Dylan Thomas Prize. Her chapbook, "Nowhere to Arrive," received the Drinking Gourd Prize. Her work has appeared in Poetry, The New York Times Magazine, The New Republic and Tin House, among other publications. She has been supported by fellowships from Kundiman, the Civitella Ranieri Foundation, the Bread Loaf Writers' Conference and Poets & Writers.
