Be the change you wish to see in the world! You ARE so gentle in your education of sustainability and veganism. You practice what you preach. It’s beautiful. If we alienate those who are unlike us, we lose the ability to learn from each other! I appreciate you and your lessons/teachings whole heartedly 🤍

Not making one's own skincare is a BIG ONE for me. THANK YOU for being upfront about this. I* Am* NOT* a* Cosmetic* Chemist*!!! Let the pros do their job and trust companies that can give us a product that's sustainable and fairtrade. I've learned that supporting these companies through voting with my dollar, I create a demand, making more mainstream companies hopefully catch on and follow suit. The company Ethique is my hero.

"I've learned that being judgemental is incredibly lonely" -- and loneliness is not really a thing we need more of at the moment ;) Thanks for those + many other wise words :) <3 from Germany <3
p.s. LOVED "Braiding Sweetgrass"! So much wisdom + knowledge there!

When I first became a vegan, I was very narrow minded. Everything was right or wrong. Now, almost 20 years later, I am kinder to myself and others. No one is perfect and doing the best one can with the knowledge one has is all that matters. People and friends are more important than ideology. We can’t be kind to animals and then hateful or judgemental to people. That doesn’t make any sense and still harms living beings. I accept people where they’re at in their journey and give myself the same grace as well. ❤️

I also will not be DIYing my teeth care anymore. I also used to be extremely zero waste and I made my own toothpaste, which caused irritation to my gums. Store-bought sustainable personal hygiene and skin care is the way to go!

Thank you for not being judgmental! That's why I've followed you for so long. I'm not vegan or plant-based, but I've made strides to incorporate more of those types of meal. I credit that to you for making me feel welcome and showing some ways to make small changes.

"Labels really suck" - my exact thoughts!!! I don't eat meat and I rarely eat fish and dairy, but I don't label this as such. I am simply eating plant-based as much as I can, and Veganuary has given me that massive boost too. I know my family have been positively intrigued by my food choices, but they have kept asking me 'so what are you, then?'. Even the Veganuary survey limited their options to 'vegan' 'vegetarian' 'pescetarian' etc. I had to put 'pescetarian' but I don't feel that is reflective of my diet, because it is very rare that I do eat fish and dairy now. In comparison, you don't label one's efforts on energy-saving or what kind of transport they use to commute or other forms of sustainability, so why always do it with food? I clap and raise my hands at everything you say, you just hit the nail on the head every time! Thank you for this <3

As a former shopaholic with a real spending problem I'm really grateful for your content. I've accepted that being zero waste is probably not attainable for me but you really inspire me to live more sustainably and minimally. Thanks for emphasizing that perfection isn't the goal. ❤️

I think you are spot on about about avoiding a preachy and/or judgemental tone. Debate is often a barrier to changing minds. You are pushed into a defensive position. Living by example and sharing your experience is much more powerful.

"Braiding Sweetgrass" COMPLETELY changed my worldview on sustainability! I love Robin Wall Kimmerer's work, and it brings me such joy to hear how her writing has impacted others!

As a secondary school student who still lives with their parents, I really look up to you. Thank you for inspiring so many and helping me to understand how to cope with close ones who outwardly disagree with my lifestyle (veganism, trying to lower waste). :)

Very glad to hear you talk about the importance of intersectionality, for environmentalism and diet-related points specifically. Often times people forget the importance of a people's personal environment, for example when it comes to accessibility (monetary, physically, in relation to their obsegenic environment and what these barriers are caused by)

I feel you on the DIY skincare!! Would you be able to do an updated eco ethical skincare routine thing? I'd love to see what you use!

i think DIY skincare is fine when it's easy, which for me is when it's just buy one raw ingredient and use it, eg aloe vera, oils (argan oil, shea butter, rosa mosqueta oil, burriti oil), rose water, etc is very easy and safe
i learned to buy ugly water bottles, as all the pretty painted ones get scratched etc, but ugly 'brushed steel' just carries on looking like just that however many dents you put in it. And don't bother buy any for other people, they never use it

This is a serious dose of humility 🙏 we should all live by this example.
I find very difficult sometimes, chosing between going to the supermarket BUT buying organic stuff in there, or eating vegan BUT coming with loads of plastic, eating local BUT not organic, buying organic skincare BUT from far away countries ... this is so complicated ! The only thing that helps me is being minimalistic and owning/consuming as less as possible/comfortable

Thank you so much for mentioning me 🥰 Also, thank you for this video. It was so insightful and I could relate to so much of your reflections. I also wish we could get rid of labels and just take action towards our goals. It is possible to share the message without being judgmental and you are a perfect example of it!

On my journey, I've learned that every little step I take counts equally, but I can't force others to do the same :)

I truly admire your humility in this video. You inspire me to strive for more sustainability in my life. I love that you are not afraid to show your failure so we can't put you on a high pedestal. You are real. You taught me to make apple cider vinegar. I used apples from a tree hanging over the road so fair game. They were dropping and making a mess. You remind me to live in the moment. Thank you.
