(real talk) I've never done this and I'm the uncle. I can't swim though and none of my family members have a pool. But the reason abnormal behavior (as compared to your usual upbringing) generally gets accepted at all is because, often like me, your parents (their siblings) only see their brother that is your uncle once or twice a year at most after they've moved away after college. They know the next time they'll really see them is when family members start dying off, and they'd rather let a behavior slide on the edge and have a good memory than have the uncomfortable conversation and have a bad memory and maybe the brother doesn't feel welcome anymore and doesn't come back for 5 or more years.
