Nice one on the 20k subs - good to see the channel gaining momentum. Bravo, mate!

I feel like I’m the only Dune fan that really enjoyed this one for what it was. Really glad it exists.

This is a great game and excellent option to have if you don't have 6hrs or 5-6 players for the original Dune

Every fan of the channel like me has already known that a double "maybe" in the Summary section is usually a "nay" for that game.

I like how we can actually get this one to the table. The orig or GF9 versions really need 6 to get the full scope.

The barely restrained anger on display here is something I can easily connect to.

Dune is the original game with that combat mechanic. Scythe took it from the original dune

Dune is a very thematic and can be incredibly deep game. If you want straight area control there's hundreds of other games to choose from. You weaken the theme, you weaken the overall game. Glad I got my GF9 version plus expansions ages ago. Part of the fun was the asymmetric nature of the game, the need to use different strategies to knock down the more powerful players. Picking up a given army was a fundamentally different experience. Even the expansion factions are all bangers in this regard, from the black market Ixians to the Really I Can Play the Tleilaxu?

The Fremen win if they just keep the game in a stalemate until the time runs out, which symbolizes the other factions running out of time/resources for their political influence over trying to control Arrakis, and finally leaving the planet and it's inhabitants (the Fremen) alone. Should a stipulation of the Fremen fail, the Spacing Guild wins if it's in play as since there is no controlling force of Dune, the real winner is commerce, specifically people doing the shipping to/from Dune.

The Bene Gesserit similarly has a wonderful win condition that if you can guess who's going to win and when you can "thematically" position yourself to win, but you have to remain mysterious about it because others will try to keep your plans from succeeding as when you win, you win alone. Adds an entire otherworldly air of mystery behind the actions of the BG player, especially since their troops don't have to necessarily be considered troops at any given time, you can both sabotage your allies and fight normally as an ally in order to manipulate the field into your position of winning. Very hard to win with BG but very satisfying when you do, like you were able to pull everyone's strings and make them dance like puppets to your victory.

Incredible amounts of nuance in the original Dune game seems missing here. While it's much longer, it doesn't appear to be that much more difficult than this game other than learning the rules for your own specific faction which can be wildly different than others.

Interesting to see how you vent on these games.

We've had this since release. It's a nice quick game to setup and half a laugh when yeh don't have much time. :)

Nice review. Despite the length of the other GF9 version, every game I've had with it has been great. Plus the art on the other one is much better.

It's a decent streamlining of Dune that I play only when I can't get 6 players to play full Dune. It's also decent enough as a gateway for less experienced players to play OG Dune. I like the small additions in forms of bazaar cards with their Cosmic Encounter style timings, and I also like that they retained and reworked core advantages of factions in this format. However, Atreides are the weakest and hardest to play.

BTW there'll be an expansion for this game and it will "blow minds". I wonder what will be changed and when they'll release it...

GF9 regularly produces games that leave me a bit cold.
I am not a Dune fan and would expect fans to go for the full experience version but maybe there is room for a quick play variant.

Thanks for that! It would be nice to have one or two suggestions of games that you prefer (aside from OG because it was longer).
Cheers!

I picked this up, like new, for $5. Not bad for filling my hole with a giant sandworm. Ahhh. I'm definitely making a display / auction in the market. It's my worm now!
