Spinal Fusion and Back Pain? Neurosurgeon Explains.

In this video I explain what Spinal Fusion involves and why a spine surgeon might recommend spinal fusion to treat a variety of spinal conditions.

Spinal fusion involves stabilising a segment of the spine to allow bony union to occur across that segment, thereby immobilising that segment of the spine.

The spinal segment to be fused is generally immobilised by the insertion of a rigid metal construct, such as pedicle screws connected to rods. A bony or rigid scaffold, such as an interbody cage with bone graft material, is placed across the region to be fused between the two vertebrae.

Spinal fusion is used to treat conditions such as spinal fractures, spinal tumours, recurrent disc prolapse, spondylolisthesis, scoliosis and other spinal deformities, degenerative disc disease causing back pain and various other conditions.

You should cover the woman that broke her back on Twitch con this month. That a pretty interesting cast study and can get a lot of young people learn about spinal fusion. Plus this would get you a lot of views.

Sir, After 45 days of spine fusion surgery, if a patient starts having muscle spasm and difficulty in movement, is it normal or it is something to check out ?
