A stroke, known in the medical field as a cerebral vascular accident (CVA) or brain attack, is more or less a “heart attack” for the brain. Like any organ in the body, the brain needs blood to supply it with oxygen and nutrients. Should this blood flow become blocked by a clot or emboli, or the rupture of a blood vessel, the cells that occupy that area of the brain begin to die. Although every person has a different presentation, some of the most common symptoms of a stroke include trouble speaking, slurred speech, weakness or paralysis of one or both sides of the body, altered mental status, vision problems, or headache.

My father had a hemorrhagic stroke last year, I spent a lot of time after he passed; looking up strokes to try to better understand what had happened and why. This is the most concise and clear explanation for strokes that I have seen, I'm only sorry to have stumbled onto this channel so late. Thank you.

Short, but scary (as for the information). My neighbor had a very mild stroke on Sunday. Luckily, there was no real damage done and she's now back home resting comfortably. I'm glad TIFO puts out videos like this. Too many people are still unaware of what strokes are and their consequences.

I appreciate the effort to address this important issue. Overall a very nice job. Several comments:
-TPA can generally be given out to 4.5 hours from the onset of symptoms in most patients
-The chance of unwanted bleeding from TPA is actually fairly low if the drug is administered appropriately
-Most inter-arterial therapies these days involve the use of mechanical clot removal systems called stent retrievers. This is instead of the use of TPA directly into the artery. It can typically be administered up to 6 hours from the onset of stroke symptoms
- Beyond intraparenchymal hemorrhages and subarachnoid hemorrhages, there are additional types called subdural and epidural hemorrhages
-Neurologists as well as neurosurgeons specialize in the care of patients with acute strokes

+Today I Found Out- Very good. Myself, I had a transandemic (?) stroke, a very "mild" form of stoke suffers rarely know they had; mine was known of after an MRI. So, along with the multiple sclerosis, I had a stroke and have partial paralysis/weakness on the right side of my body (along with other fun features associated with it). Life goes on and the hits keep on coming, huh? Take care, TIFO. You're appreciated!

You forgot to add that people need occupational therapy as well, NOT JUST physical therapy.

Its worth noting that we were taught that the "clotbuster" drug is beneficial up to 48h after the ischemic incident in our psych courses. If reversal of symptoms is not possible, at the very least it can prevent further damage.
