178F Diesel Engine Blowby.MOV

The 178F diesel engine I have has pretty bad blowby.

Mine was doing the same thing. I pulled it apart and found a busted ring and a cracked ring land. Waiting on my new piston, rings, main bearing and gasket set. Should be like new when she goes back together. Otherwise the motor for over 6100 hours on it looked like new inside. Could still see the crosshatchiing in the cylinder.

Todd, that was the same exact problem that I had with this one. I think the problem was caused by the previous owner using ether to start the engine. Either works great but it kills Diesel engines if you overdo it.

Looks like your rings are shot or the cylinder is worn out and needs a good honing and new rings. That's my guess.

I had the same problem with my diesel generator, was working fine but it stop working and I tried many times tom make it work again and I Didnt get it, for trying mani times one valve got broken and one ecrew to adjust the valve got broken too and the broken piece fall inside the holes of the rods and I had to dissassembled or the engine, I assembled with new replacement parts but the engine trow a lot of smoke and fire so the muflle get warm and hot and melt the wires of the generator.
