Majority of melee is knowing which move is safe to use in every situation. Cause if u not safe as fuck good players will just wait for u to do that unsafe option

top level in ANY game STARTS after you're perfect mechanically, then its back to fundamentals and reads

You need tech skill and movement in order to adapt and read opponents as well as the understanding of how your movement interacts with your opponents. All this comes first before reading and adapting. You have revelations as you grow as a player and learn more. Just a tech heavy game so people focus on it so much. You go back and forth essentially. It's the reason Wizzy still grinds crazy tech and pin point stuff

Match up knowledge, tech consistency, character movement/ placement control, after those are down then yeah it's picking the best option at any given time.

Facts. It’s a fighting game, it’s all about adaptation and more. If anything you should practice tech skill and all those things that hinder you and to become a bit cleaner but at the end of the day if you’re being read for “xyz”, you’re always gonna get hit by that

On one hand, I'm a way higher mmr in unranked than my tech skill would indicate because I have good fundies from other games and can out-brain some players with much better movement and tech than me. On the other hand, I am so bad at melee compared to other games mostly because my tech skill and even basic movement is garbage.

If I was even half as good at movement in melee as I was in Rivals of Aether I think I would easily be a mid-level player.

Ngl I’m kinda a hard denier of this just cause I assume that top players just see the world in slow motion and only need to predict anything in certain instances.

Did he just say hbox is the greatest melee player ever? 👀

Well the problem is that, even if you win without that much tech skill, people, including leffen mind you, will call you lame for not doing crazy technical stuff.
Like, and fsmash read into a ledgehog edgeguard is never going to be as hype as a 0td.

People werent listening. He's not saying its not important to know your mechanics, but its far less important than people make it out to be. If you dont learn how to read and adapt to your opponent your mechanics are useless. Its my personal opinion you shouldnt even learn a mechanic unless you already know how you are going to apply it to your current gameplay. An example being, you want to be able to open up with a bair in neutral, but you cant get close enough consistently without turning around. So you learn to wavedash. There are far too many melee players that i know that know every mechanic there is to know and never know when or how to use it in an actual match. So they just end up confusing themselves.
