This video breaks down formative assessments for any type of teacher or educator. It begins by offering some reasons why we should utilize formative assessment in the classroom. The are various types of assessments, but the video gives specific reasons why teachers should incorporate formative assessments. It also explain when it is appropriate to use formative assessments in relation to curriculum, class time, and units. Next, several examples of formative assessments are outlined. These examples are considered the top five examples of formative assessments. The first example given is hand signal one to five formative assessment. This is the best example for a whole class assessment. The next example is brainstorming. This formative example is followed by exit tickets. Exit tickets are probably the most familiar of all types of formative assessment examples. And the last example of a formative assessment is individual whiteboards. This video is part of an overall classroom assessment playlist and presented as part of a schools professional development. This is a great formative assessment to use in class.

The video is very good, but the sound in the back is a bit 'disburting', if you know what I mean. As an informative video the producer should ease the viewers' task. But above CONGRATS! It'a a really constructive message to everyone engaged in helping the learners.

Awesome Video! But I am thinking "brainstorming" is more of a diagnostic assessment than formative assessment. What do you think?

Research shows Formative Assessment is where it's at. And the suggestions here are all pretty easy. The problem is that kids worry a lot about being embarrassed and you can't rely on them to tell you how they are doing or risk getting called out. That data is unreliable. The data also needs to be trackable.

The teacher is wrong in the video. The square root of 144 is always 12, only. x^2 = 144 though has two solutions: +/- 12.

Sorry that some people have missed the point of your video by picking on the teachers roles - I am sure had you reversed the roles - you would have gotten slammed for that too - just carry on with your good work and let the nit pickers pick nits

I read the criticisms from the viewers in this video. It seems the creator doesn't like the idea of constructive criticism on how the way he portrayed gender. The comments made by the viewers were valid at all, and the creator of this video invalidated them by replying rude.

As a math major, I take strong issue with +-12 being the answer of the sqrt(144), as -12 shouldn't be included in this. When a square root is provided of a definite value, only the positive is the answer. This is because the sqrt is a functional operator, as in sqrt(x) is a function. It is only a function because it passes the vertical line test, in which the sqrt(x) where x=144 only has one output, y=12. The confusion comes from when we are solving algebraic functions. For example if x^2 is equal to 4, we get x "by itself" by taking the square root. If we take the square root of an algebraic function, we must include +-, because--indeed-both 2 and -2 are solutions to x^2 = 4.
