I lived in Hamburg for six months in 1973 and so much has changed. I realize you can't talk about everything, but the Alster and the beautiful homes that surround it are a great place to stroll. More recently we went to Miniatur Wunderland (Miniature Wonderland) which is the largest model railway in the world, with over 50, 000 meters of track in 1490 square meters. It is breath taking!

„Mein Hamburg, ich liebe Dich..." *sing* Thanks for that great video. It perfectly gets you a little view on what I really love about this most beautiful city in the world: although it is big and huge with lots of naval industrie around etc it is always calm in a special way. Lots of people around, but you still can relax and dwell in peace for a while. Whenever I am at the harbour such as at the Landungsbrücken or when walking trough the Volkspark it always gives me a feeling of coming home although I never lived there.
And of course the people from Hamburg are great. They all know they have to be thankful to the people from all over the world that made Hamburg great and wealthy once and even today. This makes them very open minded and although lots of people from Hamburg have their roots in different places of the world they all are and allways stay Hamburg.

I think you should mention that Hamburg was a port of departure for not just German-American ancestors but also millions of German and Central and East European (Russian Empire, Austria-Hungary, Poland etc) Jews that came to America. I think a lot of Jews in the US might also not consider themselves German Americans even if their ancestors came from Germany itself.

Make sure you go to St. Pauli if you are in Hamburg. You must see the graffiti and littered streets ! Its an experience. 😊
