I totally agree with you about setting goals.
When I first started python scripting, my goal was to make everything into a 'one click solution'.
Making snippets that I can use everyday was really fun!

My first official script was Advanced Merge for nuke and it took me a while to do it. But the biggest challenge was when I took up the opportunity to write our company's pipeline tool from scratch.I really didn't know nothing about about os module, mime data or even pyside. But i went on to google, searched almost everything, learned bit by bit and it took me 3 months to come up with something that can deployed in the production. And now when I see them using my tool everyday and how I was able to simplify their life's, its so rewarding.

Hi, you are totally right. I finished the basic python course for a couple of weeks and decided to make a script that could help me in my work. So I opened documentation, found scripts from other people and started to make my own. It was super fun and interesting process. In a week I had a useful script and a bunch of new knowledge. I think this is a big mistake to learn basics, theory, make exercises all the time and doesn't have a really useful practice.

Thank you for giving some advice on how to learn programming. This will really start to motivate me into making websites or apps. I am trying to learn the basics then learning Java or Unity. I hope I can pursue my goals on becoming a better scripter! I am starting out young so I can experienced scripter as an adult. :)

ok i really dont know what im doing in terms of scripting, but im one of the people who wants to make a game on the Roblox engine (it uses Lua).
Im aware its hard, but i cant wrap my head around where I should start.
i dont understand the fundamentals of what im doing, i dont get why each dot and parenthesis is there, and i dont get why some things work and why others dont.
im wondering where I should begin. should i try to learn the fundamentals and basics, as i might've skipped the start?

right now, i look at scripting as a language. when in elementary, i took very basic """scripting""" classes that planned to teach me how to think in a problem solving manner and how I can get a system to do what I want. I have that part covered. What I dont have is how to write actual code.
Every language, like scripting, has fundamentals. like the grammar rules of english. currently, I dont think I know those fundamentals of scripting. I know what I want to say and how its gonna work, but I dont know how to say it.
so, im really stuck.

I'm 11 and i want to develop a 3d game, though i don't know where to start, are making characters 3d hard? I have a program that helps me practice sculpting but, i don't know how to use it properly.
