The Gameboy family is one of the the largest video game console families and certainly the largest handheld console family. Including Game Boy consoles such as the original DMG 01, Gameboy Color, Gameboy Advance, GBA SP and GBA Micro.

But which is the best Gameboy? More specifically which is the best Game Boy to buy if you're just starting to collect Gameboy games, Game Boy Color games or GBA games?

The brick is called the brick because it's the foundation of everything! Without a doubt the best one to get is the Gameboy SP or one of the early ds ones as they are backwards compatible and have built in batteries. But talking about Gameboy only for me it has to be Gameboy pocket for nostalgia. Never really liked the colour too much. Even the cartridges were ugly.

Really enjoyed this mate..
I've always been a GB fan, and I still have my original.
I created a few DS lite mods a while back specifically with the GBA in mind,
as the backlight for the NDS lite was unreal in comparison.

Only issue with rechargeable batteries is that they will eventually die. AA and AAA are probably always going to be available, but replacement internal batteries may become hard to find.

I loved what you said about the 001..like you say when you look at the 101 and 001 side by side (which most vids do) makes the 001 look worse then it actually is. Great video again. I have a nice OG GameBoy (Complete with official carry case) and a GBC, but for some reason I totally skipped the GBA consoles. I had the original DS which could play GBA games, but I don't think I ever got any. Perhaps it's a good time for me to pick up a GBA SP for the collection.

As I've got older I now prefer playing these games on the Gameboy Player or Gameboy cart on Gamecube / SNES.

I love the O.G. gameboy for nostalgia, but my favorite and best one to play was the clamshell gameboy advance SP that had the NES skin. I wish I still had mine.😥😥

If you like color options, but want original gameboy size, there's always the "Play it Loud" series.
Or if want a smaller, the Pocket is cool and has color options.

For new people wanting to get into Gameboy, but don't want to deal with more of the inconveniences that come with original hardware, I'd imagine the Analogue Pocket would be worth picking up.
