Pretty crazy it came outta nowhere and not by the team we've been waiting on. Glad it's here and the psx version is a good base to just touch up. Wish the og team got to finish their version, wouldve been nice to have alternatives but ah well. At least they'll be working with this new team in some capacity going forward.

Don't forget that SMT 1 got a PSX translation too. Also, Hard mode finally makes the game a challenge.

This game is so amazing it definitely deserves all the effort both translations teams put into it,
I didn’t know it was your favorite jrpg of all times but it is my most recommended ps1 era game.

Both story and characters are very refined to the point it feels like seeing something written yesterday (not old at all), it has a very solid pacing with even scenario changing in scenes where you see different characters in different places do different things or react to a same event.

I think the absolute ace this game has is Tatsuya. He’s not only wonderfully developed and a very relatable and interesting character. He keeps the game together because first you want to know what he’s doing, why he’s doing and what he’s referring to by “other side” and “him”. Then when you join him it’s an amazing showdown against one of the greatest villain Atlus ever made Nyarlototept.

Even the gameplay who went from horrible in P1 (for my taste, just because it’s inconsistent and has several hidden never explained gimmicks) to painfully easy in IS is now refined and you actually encounter a couple of challenges. You are forced to learn the combat because you start with a very limited arsenal and a party with only 4 people. (And for some reason all but Maya even leaves the party in some point leaving you with 3)

My favorite change beside the UI is the IS save import. I like the level of immersion it provides, eventhough it breaks the game as my tatsuya is about level 80.

So awesome. I also finally just played the PSP version in Japanese as well. Thankfully some kind soul uploaded an English version of the script which was a godsend given my poor Japanese skills. I enjoyed it very much regardless. I agree on the decision to leave the Japanese honorifics. I really find this to be charming in many games. I’m so excited to take a few days off and play through this new translation. Cheers to the team who did it and thanks for the vid.

I’m playing it right now and I agree, it does feel like what should have been released following “Innocent Sin”. (Which I played for the first time when it was officially released in the U.S. finally, years ago). I’m so thankful to the team who made this fan translation, I had been wanting to play this version for so long and now I have the chance!
