When I was a youngster my Dad told my biology teacher that I was going to learn a lot by gutting the deer.

When I was in high school, 3 of the 12ish teachers were all "out sick" on the same day. He later admitted that they all went hunting that day.

My dad called me in "sick" for deer season and the school refused to give me the day off. So my dad leans back and says "Listen, you can write down what hes actually doing or you can make something up. Either way he aint coming" and hung up.

I dated a Michigander for a while, apparently where they grew up the first day of deer season the schools just closed.

Pretty sure you had the teacher on the "learning to be quiet" element.

When i was in college we got a professor from California tell us about his first year teaching in Wisconsin. He was handing out his syllabus to the class and someone raised their hand saying he scheduled an exam during deer season. He said he wasn't going to change it. He was talking to his colleagues and they were stunned he would schedule an exam during the opening weeks of deer season. Half of his class was absent for about 2 weeks.

My school in the Midwest actually closed during the first week of deer season cause they all knew that the kids wouldn’t be in class anyways

I do believe Michigan accepts “going huntin’” as an excusable absence

“If that’s what ya gotta do then that’s what you gotta do” is the Midwest way of saying I don’t care

Teachers and employers alike gotta accept it. "This isn't a request for permission, it's an advanced notice for absence."

"That's a stretch" is an underrated archery pun

My dad has always said to the school that it was a “mental health checkup”
It’s good for your mind to be outdoors so in a way We were not lying. 😂

There was actually a lawsuit against my school when a student wasn't released to a parent for a teacher pulling this crap. The parent won and now the district has changed their whole policy for absence and pulling students from school

I'm reconnecting little Billy with his food sources and educating him about sustainable practices. The government FUNDS programs to do this in school.

“Then don’t approve it. Wasn’t asking permission I was informing you.”

My dad always just said I had a dental appointment that morning. I would sit in the morning, go with him and my uncles for lunch, i was back for the last couple hours of school, and then be right back out for the evening sit.

Northern Ontarion here, they really didn't care if you skipped school if if your dad was taking you out in the field. Early morning hunting and then after hunt dining at our local pancake house. The principal being a hunter is funny but accurate as well.

I missed a week of school for elk hunting and when I came back my mom sent in a sick note saying I had elk fever 😂
