Would you choose to build a house on top of an unfinished foundation? Of course not. Why, then, do we rush students through education when they haven't always grasped the basics? Yes, it's complicated, but educator Sal Khan shares his plan to turn struggling students into scholars by helping them master concepts at their own pace.

TEDTalks is a daily video podcast of the best talks and performances from the TED Conference, where the world's leading thinkers and doers give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes (or less). Look for talks on Technology, Entertainment and Design -- plus science, business, global issues, the arts and much more.

Einstein said something similar about education.
He said:
"It's not that I'm so smart, it's just that I stay with problems longer."

Sal Khan: The real person we all owe thousands of dollars of tuition to.

I owe Sal everything I know about anything honestly. He's helped me learn chem/bio/every math I've ever taken, and any time I hit one of these "walls" he spoke of, Sal was always there to fill whatever there was that kept me from mastery. I appreciate Sal's passion for education and have nothing but admiration for everything he has given us.

This man literally saved me back in middle school algebra. I used to have so much trouble with algebra that I thought I was going to fail the class until I found Khan academy. Since then I've done really well and im going to be doing honers algebra 2 in freshman year in a month. Sal is a fricking legend.

Currently during this coronavirus outbreak when we are participating in distance learning, I’ve been enjoying it quite a lot, because I’m truly learning for the love of learning. One thing that was difficult for me, especially in math class, was having to keep up with the quick pace without fully understanding bits and pieces of the content(therefore creating gaps in my knowledge). However, now, I can watch videos of lessons at my own pace, and if I don’t get something, pause and think about it until I understand and figure it out, then continue. This means I’m able to fully fathom concepts instead of memorizing, and that’s been so enjoyable! It’s also making me so much more self-directed and independent, which is so helpful in life!

My dad is a phD in applied math from Standford. This is what he always told me throughout my learning. It doesnt matter how much you got in your exams as long as you mastered the material.

This guy is like the Father of Education for all the students. Because of him, many students who once hated learning have taken an interest in learning.
