I purchased your web dev course a few days ago and I just wanna say you’re a GREAT educator! I thought I had HTML basics down, but your course has humbled me and I’m way more effective AND efficient with my code even though I’m still only learning the bare basics. Thank you, Stefan!

As a contractor I keep parachuting-in and saving projects that have stagnated or gone awry. Quite often, I am assigned modules and given, say, six months - and almost always, I get them done in far less time. Why is that? Because the managers and architects are too close to the issues and have bogged their teams down with ( virtual ) paperwork and always estimate on the long side. One example is a module that I did for a VERY large company which Stefan owns at least one of their products. Anyway, I was given four months to complete the module, and I did so in 3 weeks. I was then given another module with a schedule of six months, and I completed it in - 3 weeks. To be fair, once *I* got there, the parameters and specifications were well known and basically locked-down, and I benefited from that. Before my arrival, much of the time spent was on locking down - and any software engineer knows that requirements-capture is EVERYTHING.

I can't imagine you would get a software architect job without at least a few years experience working as a developer professionally.

Not about this specific video, but on the "need to nerd" basis.
You've mentioned that in a few vlogs. It's been sinking in recently and I've really come to appreciate the wisdom in adopting this as a "default" approach to programming.
* How do I change the defaults values of XYZ? Check that out on a need to nerd basis.
* What are the different modes of some lib? Need to nerd.
* Etc.
I think it really makes things feel a lot more straightforward. Now instead of seeing some new framework's documentation as hundreds of pages, I see it as one page I'm currently looking at. And the 1 or 2 others I need to check out now. Much less intimidating.

Nice video, thanks Stefan!

Could you please shed a light about becoming a team lead (not to confuse with a tech lead)

I studied programming in highschool then did a web development bootcamp, now I'm one year and a half into my software engineering career and expecting it would take me another 5~6 years to achieve the team lead goal.

- What steps I can take to help me move towards that goal ?
- Is it easier to be done working for a large established company ?
- And lastly is 5~6 years too much ?

I’m in to my third year professionally and I’m doing large projects(applications) and I am given architectural decisions but it’s not easy cause it always comes back around and you realize that you could have made better decisions like making small changes in your code that if something goes wrong you don’t have to pull the whole code base apart!

As a tech engineer, what skills will be transferable to become a software architecture? What certificate would you recommend to start learning? What’s the difference between system design and software architecture or are they the same?

Hi Stef, quick question.
Should I (being already a medior software developer and IT engineer) switch to WordPress development?
Would it be a step back in my career considering my previous experience developing custom apps, degree in IT and etc?

I wouldn't do it, but the company where i work currently is asking me to learn it, so I am not sure should I learn it or switch jobs.
Any help/advice is appreciated. Thanks

I've never worked on a project that actually concludes, all of them are projects that are in constant evolution, they never get to a point where nothing changes. I don't exactly if that metric you mention is applicable for everyone.

Just want to ask. What if you are a Product Owner or Project Manager that handled 4 large software projects. Can you be an architect? Thanks.

Just get yourself certified in a technological field an you will be architect in a second. Like azure or aws architect you will be good especially if you have a computer science ingeneer degree...if you dont then take couple of projects and in a year or two you will be.

Unrelated, but you often talk about FU money in your videos. But where to keep it ?
Is it a good idea to keep it in a high-yield savings account ? For example Alterna bank, EQ bank etc ?
