Can you add a dethatcher to a Toro Timemaster 30”? Well we find out and also do a deep dive into functionality to see if what we did actually works! Follow along and there is a DIY How To included. The dethatcher on the 30” Toro Timemaster actually performs fairly well. Watch to see the results for yourself to see if this is a DIY project you should tackle for yourself!

Thanks for answering a long standing question for me. I own the same mower in your demonstration, and have been deliberating this for a while. Look like it’s a go.

I fit that JD dethatcher on my Honda HRX by adding shoulder bolts exactly like the front wheel bolts on it, accept half an inch longer and added a bronze bushing from Lowes, a couple bolts and washers adjusted the dethatcher frame to toe in slightly and it goes on easily and works very well!
Thank you!

Informative video. Note for all: @01:27, it would have been safer to do the tilt with the fuel cap on to avoid spillage.

Great video.
I found one of these 2nd hand (pretty rare I guess over here in the UK).
I don't want the hassle of hiring a comnercial dethatcher, or walking miles behind a tiny domestic one.
This might solve the problem.
Will be trying it soon..

Hey, guess what...there's a company called Red Magic that makes one of these dethatcher spring-tine units specifically for the 30" Toro Timemaster, Turfmaster & Exmark units. Maybe you gave them an idea?!!! 😁

Holy moly I’m ordering the dethatcher like right now after seeing this.

Update: can’t find it for sale anywhere. 😞

That worked great! Who knew you could add a John Deere dethatcher to a Toro mower? :) -Chad #purplecollarlife

So you do a video about this neat dethatcher attachment and you don't include a link or any information about how to order one?

Why would you mulch, then bag? Why not just bag the first time? By mulching first I would think you are forcing cut grass down into the lawn instead of putting it directly into the bag. Even on a second bagging pass after mulching, there's going to be some grass that's now too deep in the lawn to all come up. It makes the dethatch pass look a bit better than it really was because it's getting up some of that mulched grass from your first pass. I also wish you would have shown some footage of what the dethatcher pulled up without the blades running on the mower to get a better idea of exactly how much it's pulling up as you go. Showing us what's in the bag gives us no clue. We don't know how much area you covered to collect that much debris. But I think we get your point that it is a worthwhile thig to do. Even if it is not as thorough as a power rake or scarifier it seems like a much quicker method. Maybe just do it a little more often than power raking. As a Timemaster owner, I thank you for pointing this out to us.

I need something with a bagger. I have a 3pt CMP dethatcher for my 1025R but I really need to rack after using it... which is a lot of work. And a 30" like yours would be much quicker than a 21", have to look into one.

Checking the oil could be a good idea. Then again this mower is no good. I owned one, it left the biggest mess I have ever seen. Great heaps of chewed up grass everywhere. One only way to stop this was to leave the cut grass very high, this meant I had to return quickly to cut it again. My advice get a real mower.
