Are we Incorrectly using Kv for an RC Brushless Motor

How is the Motor Kv (measured by reading the Back EMF while spinning the motor as a generator) OK to use for RPM output at an applied voltage? In this video we clarify the meaning of the Constant "Kv." We take a look at its relevance and compare it against other Motor Constants.

Seriously people, if you are into engineering and RC parts consider subscribing. There is literally no one else this knowledgeable who regularly posts this kind of educational content in such an easily digestible format.
Keep up the good work RCexplained! 👍

The one r/c related thing you may not know, is just how awesome this channel is. Thank you so much for sharing

Hey Ryan, another great video thanks for sharing.
PS: Slightly off topic, Have you seen the new 2850kv T-Motor F2203.5 motors? Seems great for a small high kv motor yet efficient good idle current, but much higher resistance than I was expecting to see @ 90mΩ ( and the 1500kv is 235mΩ ) Any opinion ?
Cheers

would it be important to test a car with each set of rc tires used, to findout which gives desired rpm?

Sir can you please suggest me which gage and how much copper wire we need for 360 kv bldc motor?

Excellent information! Will you be adding this information to your website? If not I better start taking notes!

Sounds good. Now how do I apply this to my RC boat ?
I've built the 1949 CHRIS-CRAFT 19' RACING RUNABOUT
It's 30 inches long and weighs about 4 lbs.
So I bought a Brushless motor # 2958 4200 Kv with a 70 amp. ESC.
2 - Spectrum 11.1 volt 50 C smart batteries in parrel.
All you're information is great but how do you apply it to my project.
Also how do you choose a prop for maximum speed.
Thanks Alvin

Surely the kv doesn't go down under load as long as you give the motor enough A? For example under not load the motor might only pull 3A at 8v, but under load it might pull 40A or 100A.

Thanks for your sharing. It is very helpful. I have two questions about your vedio: (1) Is the block or sinusoidal commutation used for this brushless motor? (2) Why the voltage used to calculate the Kv has to be multiplied by a constant 1.3433, could you please let me konw where this constant is from? (Kv = RPM / ( Voltage x 1.3433 )). Thank you very much.

I love useless knowledge, especially in subjects that I already understand but taken to the next level, that's the stuff that makes me a ton of money. In this instance it never will but someone, along time ago told me to never stop learning no matter how trivial it may seem at the time.

How do you get 1338rpm from 156.1Hz and 14poles?

I use a Sky Rc motor analyzer to set my brushless motors timing, check sensor board alignment and KV VALUE. Im intetested in knowing if this device is calculating kv accurately. It would be very interestin im sure to the thousand s of racers that live and die by the BMA-01. I HOPE THIS. INSPIRES YOU TO DO A VIDEO ON THE ACCURACY OF THIS ANALYZER

Most people think kv is killavolts 🤣🤣🤣
