Great wrap up video as always Olly…..nice to see those books at the back haha - wonderful to see how so many people have got behind the trash challenge.

The Unexpected Mrs. Pollifax sounds fun. It's always a good sign when an older book holds up well for a modern reader. Dan Simmons is so good at writing foreboding, dread-filled scenes. I'm not surprised you enjoyed The Terror.

Seems like a solid reading month for you! I’ve been mostly off of reading in July other than some thrillers on audiobook but really looking forward to Garbaugust. I’m really leaning out of my comfort zone in week 1 😂

Great wrap up, love all the disturbing books. I really want to read The Terror. I am on the fence of checking out Zombie.

You always have such busy reading months, it makes me feel inadequate! 😆But a lot of interesting trash. I have a copy of The Searing, but I haven't read it yet. Neither have I read Tender Loving Care, but I read Neiderman's Pin a few years ago and enjoyed it. Actually, TLC was made into an FMV video game in the late '90s by the same people who made The 7th Guest. I've seen some video reviews of that, and if the book is as trashy as the game, then I'm intrigued. 😛I've never heard of The Unexpected Mrs. Pollifax, but that sounds incredibly fun, so I'll have to look into that. And your constant praise of Derek Raymond has got me intrigued, too. So many books!

I loved Zombie—I felt sick the whole time I was reading it! I’ll have to watch your review soon.

Goodness, you've had an "horrific" month! I have only read the Gilman many years ago.

For me, Sovereign was as good as expected and I enjoyed Prime Suspect. Thank you for the recommendation! Equal Rites was fun too.

This week for GarbAugust I plan to read a Stuart Woods - Swimming To Catalina. His books don't have explicit sex, but Stone Barrington sleeps with 2 or 3 new women in every book. It's ridiculously trashy!!

For more week one criteria, I look forward to another JD Robb - Visions In Death. (She is one of my top 3 favorite mystery writers along with Lee Child and Dick Francis.) Also on my TBR is Naked Heat by Richard Castle. Gonna be a good reading week for me!

Looking forward to more fun videos!

I read I was Dora Suarez back in the 1990s, it made a deep impression on me, I know why you mentioned the cruelty to small animals, that was memorable.. Dora Suarez was a victim because she was poor and attractive, even if she hadn't been murdered her life would have been cut short for other reasons.

Another great month Olly! 👏🏻 Gearing up for GarbAugust has been so much fun. I can’t wait to dive in my trash pile. 🗑

Ask Olly: Are there any books that you have lingering gripes with? Which book(s) have you thought are excellent apart from "that bit" or "that thing", and what might you say to the author(s), given the chance?

There are some really interesting looking books in this lot, but now I want to read the one you specifically said not to read about Caligula!! 😂

I'm too much of a yellow chicken to have read "The Troop" by Nick Cutter but by all accounts it's a brilliantly disturbing piece of work. Have you read it or do you plan to? Needless to say I would value your opinion and depending on your thoughts I might even be able to summon up the courage to take the plunge and buy a copy!

I’m almost done with I Was Dora Suarez. I can’t decide if I like or dislike the writing system. It’s awkward but it somehow fits. I’ve ordered books 2 and 3 but 5 is eluding me.

I need to read The Terror. I really liked the TV series based on it, starring Jared Harris.
