In this video Pippa and I review Horse Riding without stirrups and how to get the most out of the No Stirrup November Challenge that many horse riding students are looking forward to!

If you are new to riding working without stirrups for short periods of time at the walk and trot can help you gain strength and balance. You will strengthen your core over time and feel more confident and balanced in the saddle. Do this work at the end of your riding lessons when you and your horse are warmed up!

Let me know how this challenge goes for you.

While I've never done this formally in November, I ride bareback routinely to improve my balance. Nice video, VRA Fam.

I am planning to ride with no stirrups for at least a few minutes twice a week in November. It will be good therapy for my back as well.

Greeks and Assyrians didn't use stirrups in their battles, ancient rock art confirms it

Wow, sounds so hard, and impressive you did this for months! VRA FB group member and just sub'd Do you think one has to start with riding at an early age to learn to ride? Any benefits for someone over 50 to take up horse riding as an activity? Like good for back, hips or is it hard on them? Trying to take up new activities as I become an empty nester, and took up lap swimming for healthy, but I've always wanted to try horse riding, but a bit nervous, honestly.
