Wouldn’t be a Kojima Metal Gear game without BARE MINIMUM 4 hotties with either suicidal or murderous intent towards our boy Snake.

I do think it's funny how the phrase "because Kojima" applies to so much throughout all his games.

"Her story is deep, and meaningful, and written with soul and purpose...

"... she's also ridiculously hot, but that's beside the point."

Ahh, good ol’ Hideo “it’s actually really important for her character development that her unruly charges are fully out at all times, also she has a fantastic ass as a metaphor for PTSD and you’d realise that if you paid attention” Kojima

Sniper Wolf is such a tragic character, but so well written.

Most of my knowledge of Metal Gear comes from these shorts, but I want to point out the screencap of her low-poly model... God, she looks so tired. It's a few blurry pixels on a sharp angular face, but there's such a strong sense of exhaustion, loneliness, and simultaneously resignation. I strive to convey expressions like this someday, that's genuinely incredible.

In fact, Kojima liked this concept so much that he quadrupled down with Quiet in MGSV

I remember that the prequal fan-comic The Last Days of FOXHOUND explains the ultra-cleavage as her shirt shrinking in the wash, possibly due to a prank by Decoy Octopus.

"Do you think love can bloom, even on a battlefield?" Otacon asked Snake.

So numbed to life outside the scope, Sniper Wolf couldn't see someone had loved her truly, all along. War is hell.

I don't know why I was waiting for a "No not the YouTuber" joke somewhere 😅

You can't fix her.

Sadly no one can.

You could also read the femme fatal part as a desperate attempt at connection physically. Even that part, which yes is very kojumbo, can be taken artistically. Love it.

"She's also a highly sexualized, flirty femme fatale because Kojima"
We're gonna be hearing this line a lot

The sniper wolf fight was such an unexpected emotional impact. You just got away from a heli fight against Liquid atop the Communications Tower, and suddenly you're hit in the middle of a snowstorm. You think to yourself oh itll be just like the first time w Wolf, but instead, you're hit w an emotional scene, and you're left wondering as you walk away, what are you fighting for?

Q: “why does her jacket get more unzipped with each encounter?”
A: “its a metaphor.”
Q: “…”
A: “…”
Q: “for what?”
A: “Emotional vulnerability.”
Q: “oh…kayyy…”

YokoTaro: “I like women.”
A: “Me 😊 too.”

Probably the best part about her is the presentation. She is the one that shoots and almost kills Meryl, makes you backtrack through that cave with the wolves, captures you and taunts you. But when you get her with the final shot her scream and the silence that follows afterward is chilling. Then you are hit with this backstory. Turns out there never was any cold hearted killer, she was just like snake and many others, a victim of war.

I'm convinced PTSD is one of the most prominent running themes throughout the series, and Wolf in particular is a picture of what happens when stress and anxiety set in *early* in life. The way she takes her medication isn't like that of an abuser, it's like that of someone who has lived through decades of anxiety-induced brain damage but has finally found something that can at least make one of the many physical pains it results in stop being so debilitating.

The lesson? Fan service and depth aren’t always mutually exclusive.

I played this game when i was 10-11 years old and it shaped how i viewed the world. Before this my favorite games where all war shooters, like medal of honor and i fantasized about being a soldier, like children do. Being introduced to these concepts about the consequence of war on people, how soldiers are tools to be used and exploited, heavily infuleneced my growing minds capacity for empathy and hunger for complex narrative. MGS is truly a masterpiece.

The thing about her being around and identifing with wolves I think is a subtext of portraying her as a wild child "raised by wolves". Because, what is born in a war if not living in the wild of humanity?
