It’s time to ease into 2022 with a simple pastel painting. It is fun to let go and just respond to a simple scene with your pastels without overthinking and overworking. In this video I set a timer for 20 minutes and work with a preselected tray of pastels leftover from another painting.

I love the way you took an incredibly boring reference photo and turned it into something so beautiful. The power of creativity…

And you did it in 20 minutes

Looks great! As someone with ADHD and someone who gets stuck in the details, the 20 minute idea is very smart.

I loved this! I especially appreciate how you interpret rather than duplicate the reference photo.

I find it so helpful how you explain the process of composition, colour and tone, thank you

I watch. I listen. I think I understand.
But what you do and why is still a great mystery to me.

I love the way you break down the steps to make pastel painting accessible to those of us learning. I treated myself to your Terry Ludwig set. I look at my mailbox every day hoping they have come!

You make it look so simple but when I try it, it’s definitely not. You are gifted - and such a generous teacher sharing your talent and knowledge. Thank you, Karen. You give me such joy - and hope

13:11 the painting comes through you and not from you. A synchronous zone. Great stuff, very informative and inspiring.

Nice work. I do really enjoyed its growing up. But, I'd say you make it complicated rather than "just" simple. May be due to the multiple color overlaps you "professionally" used. Thanks for sharing this beauty .

Hi, I just created this, my first pastel painting, turned out pretty well, I'm a watercolor artist. They sure are a lot more forgiving than watercolors! But I painted with the vacuum at my side. 😁

At the end of the 7 minute mark your painting reminded me of a William Turner painting...one of my very favorite artists. Amazing how you take such a drab picture and bring it to life with color.

I am amazed at the beauty you added to that boring old field! I too want to give this one a shot. It will probably take me a week! Lol

I decided I wanted to try my hand at my grandmother’s beautiful set of pastels which are now 50+ years old, so I turned your video on to give me a jumping off point. Wow! What a find. Your painting is amazing and your interpretation of the original reference really lovely. I so happy I found your channel and can’t wait to follow you. Thank you for sharing your talent.

love how you transform a fairly bland photo into an incredibly dynamic and vivid painting. i paint with watercolor so i can't really put light values on top of dark, but i do get lots of inspiration regarding color and composition from your generous demos. thank you!
