Create Bootable System Recovery USB Drive in WIndows 8

If you Computer crashes and you didn't create the recovery drive beforehand, you can use another Windows 8 machine to create a Bootable System Recovery USB and then use it on the crashed PC.

I simply do this: Control Panel > System and Security > File History > "Backup" (all the way down in the left bottom corner, below "Recovery." After the word "Backup" a few more words might appear depending on your OS). I had my external dive already plugged in, and after a few seconds Windows finds it. "Next" > "Start Back-up" and the System Backup is made while I go do something else. Takes about 20-25 minutes.

I still don`t know how to copy the existing drive and create a spare in case the old hard drive fails as they often do on laptops.

0:57 I have windows 8.1 and do not see "create a recovery drive" ? Mine screen says 2 options 1) "use an image you created earlier to recover your computer" and 2) "reinstall windows" about moving forward.

i have a dell 5420 laptop with with windows 8 pre installed, on update of certain drivers i cannot get logging screen.the system goes black after dell logo appears.today i received the rcovery dvd from dell.please tell me how do i use these dvds to make my system work.i tried my to boot from dvd but the booting option is usb so i have no idea what to do now??

I just tried something like that; I had upgraded Vista to Win 8 Pro (x32-bit) ; I cloned? the existing (256Gig) drive (onto a new larger [640Gig] hard-drive) and made a back-up repair DVD; but when I tried to boot up it gave me the middle finger a thousand times. At boot up all I got told was "there is no operating system installed" and then when I used the boot repair DVD it just gave me an error messsage `0x0084142`? error or something.

What key did you press when you started the computer? There is no key that says boot from the flash drive. What key did you press?

So, I have an ASUS X552e w/Windows 8, which crashed. I attempted to reset the pc to factory settings (don't really have any necessary files on this cp), and it states that a required drive partition is missing. Will this usb recovery drive bypass this and allow me to refresh/reset the PC so I can use it?

*So, what this indicate to me if someone decent can verify it, does that mean I can create a USB thingy of ONLY the Windows 8 version that I have on another laptop without what might happen when you clone the disc. Is it so? Like, in my impression if I clone one that means it clones everything I do not need like a lot of stuff, but I want the OS and that is the only thing. So what to do? Is it true that this will only copy the OS? And what about ''license code'' that one need, needed, for the Windows 7 computers? Is it not like that for Win8 and why?*
